My impression of Uematu's music of the Final Fantasy 8 era, when he had to churn out 4+ hours of music every year or two for a new game, is that he sat
down at a keyboard, jammed for a bit, and kept almost everything he came up with, with no discrimination. The music almost could have been composed randomly
by computer; you'd just have to put some limits, like using fairly even rhythms, so it doesn't sound completely terrible -- though it won't sound
memorable or inspired, either.

What a stupid poll. It's like voting for your favorite disease. Not to mention the copy/paste annoyance.

Crawl and 1OOO wrote:I'm not sure that completely explains the general decline in the quality of the music. I mean, there was a lot of music for Final Fantasy V-VII (the ffvi score is still my favorite) and the time between the release of those games was about the same (2-3 years). I've always suspected that at least part of it had to do with the fact that he's getting older - I've found that a lot of my favorite musicians hit their peaks in their 20s and 30s, and I suspect videogame composers aren't that much different. |
