That made me laugh
85% of video games are above the median in quality.

The executive said game makers just haven't reached a point yet where the mouth movement and facial animation of game characters is good enough to establish a compelling emotional attachment from the player.I've probably had more emotional attachment to characters in 2D games that barely even have faces. As for Guitar Hero becoming it's own thing not tied to an actual game system, I guess that makes sense. It's good to see that there's still no sign of another generation of consoles. I think that would be the death of console gaming altogether if it's done prematurely.

To remedy that, Kotick noted a real-time rendering and mouth movement technology Activision has been working on. He showed a clip of the technology, saying it could represent nothing less than a transformation of the medium. |

I think some people have or had this idealistic notion of Capitalism where the richest, most powerful people are these individualistic visionaries.
See here. HAVE ONLY ONE EXECUTIVE - A CAPITALIST WHO WANTS TO SUCCEEDAnd here. The HP-35 and probably the entire HP pocket calculator product line was the sole result of a visionary CEO who chose to ignore the market studies and produce what he felt that engineers would want. His view of the market was that if the engineer at the next bench liked it and thought it would make his job easier, then it was worth doing. It's bullshit, though, or at least it seems to be now. The CEO in that article probably has no idea of his own what makes a "good" game, but he knows about the bottom line (making him a better paid PsychoPenguin, basically). If you're wondering why games are so bad now, it must start at the top. Can you imagine anyone having passion for what they're doing in that environment? |
