Magnavox Odyssey 24. Atari Jaguar 23. Atari 5200 22. 3DO 21. Magnavox Odyssey 2 20. Sega Master System 19. NeoGeo 18. Sega Saturn 17. Atari 7800 16. Gamecube 15. PS3 14. Intellivision 13. TurboGrafx-16 12. Colecovision 11. Xbox 10. Wii 9. Nintendo 64 8. Dreamcast 7. Playstation 6. Xbox 360 5. Genesis 4. Super Nintendo 3. Playstation 2 2. Atari 2600 1. NES First of all, why 25? They practically took every console ever made and ordered them. The bottom five systems are particularly throwaway.

Atari 2600 over almost everything? I admit there's a certain novelty to it and a few classics, but much of what's on it can only barely qualify as a game. They practically took every console ever made and ordered them. The bottom five systems are particularly throwaway. Exactly. They could have just made it a Top 20. Or even a Top 15 or 10 if they weren't trying to equivocate. I'd rank the original Playstation way, way above PS2. Yeah. It does seem to me that the PS1 had more great games than the PS2 did. Atari 2600 over almost everything? I admit there's a certain novelty to it and a few classics, but much of what's on it can only barely qualify as a game. Exactly, again. If they were stuck on a desert island with only one game system, would they really want it to be a 2600 instead of an SNES? Or Genesis? Or Playstation? Etc? The only thing good I can say about that list is that it's nice to see the NES at #1 and some other "oldschool" systems ahead of the modern ones, but still... www.flyingomelette.com

I haven't actually watched any of the videos, and don't plan to, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't something like that going on with the NES and Atari 2600. My second reaction (after"Why 25?") was the PS2 and Atari 2600 have no business being that high. I sometimes wonder if the PS2 is the most overrated console ever. All the "Console Defining" exclusives I've played for it have been mediocre at best (God of War, ICO) and bad at worst (Shadow of the Colossus), yet everyone slobbers over the thing like it was the pinnacle of gaming. EDIT: Oh wait, Ratchet & Clank 1 was okay, but Jak & Daxter and the other two R&Cs also fall under mediocre. And sheesh, wasn't the Atari 2600 responsible for the Great Video Game Crash? Admittedly, I have never played any of its games, but even if all its games are horrible, I think the fact that it was the first home video game console alone is enough to elevate it above that level, if only for historical value. (After all, the introduction does mention how influential the systems are as a factor in placement.) I have never played with any of the other four consoles in positions 25-21, but what I've read about them leads me to believe they aren't noteworthy. I also agree that 25 is way too many for a list of the top consoles. The amount of video game consoles in existence renders placement any worse than, say 10th, just about meaningless. I haven't played enough video games in my life to judge the placement of the consoles on the list, though. I just watched the first segment. They actually listed the fact that the Jaguar was a 64-bit console as one of its strenghts, rather than debunk that claim! (For those who don't know, the Jaguar didn't have any 64-bit processors, it faked it with two 32-bit processors.) Last Edited By: GasMaskMan 09/05/09 6:52 PM. Edited 2 times.

This. That's got to be one of the most ridiculous "all systems are created equal" arguments I've ever seen. Not only does every system have good games for it, but every system has at least one great game? No, at least one of the greatest games EVER MADE? It had more than just "a few flops", and yes, it was a failure. I doubt even Sega themselves would argue that it was a success. I was just telling Crawl the other day that even though I can understand why Sony wasn't happy about it, I think Nintendo was justified in canning the SNES CD project. Maybe they could have made something that was better than the Sega CD, whose games, as I've said before, were mostly just Genesis games with some MS Paint-quality FMV sequences tacked on. But if that is all they could do with the technology at the time, then I think it's a good thing they didn't expect people to shell out another $200 for it. www.flyingomelette.com

Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Well, I as I said on my site, if I had never bought my Sega CD I probably never would have heard of Ultraverse Prime, and while I don't doubt the game was crap the comics were a great way to satisfy my desire to find a comic to get into without having to find/buy/read 300 issues of Spiderman. But as for the Sega CD itself, the only game I've completed for it was the Earthworm Jim special edition which barely counts since I'd probably beaten it twenty times before on the SNES. And the only game of interest I can think of for the 32x is Kolibri. I can't even think of many other games, much less ones that aren't ports.

(Couldn't you just take an emulator?) I think it's just supposed to be the systems' original libraries. If you really were on a desert island, you might not want to take an emulator, however, because sand could get into all of the PC's moving parts. That might also eliminate any non-cartridge based system, too, though.
