I'm noticing more and more ads in the paper lately stating that you must not have any gaps in your employment to be considered for the advertised position.
I've heard before that some companies prefer for you to not have gaps in your employment, but never before have I seen it stated so boldly right in the print, and as an absolute requirement. The only reason I can think for this is that they're discriminating against laid-off workers who have been out of a job for several months and can't find work.
I'm considering reporting these ads to be investigated for this, although I'm not sure exactly who I should report them to. I could try the Ohio Division of Jobs and Family Services, I suppose. I'd think it would be in the government's best interest to crack down on this if it is discrimination, especialy if they don't want people to be on unemployment forever.
I guess one question would be, WHY discriminate against laid-off workers? Well, I've heard that a lot of them are 40 and older, so it could even be a form of disguised age discrimination.
