The supermarket has 4 kinds of its own water (these come in gallon jugs, not just the bottles): Distilled, "Drinking" ("from a municipal source"), and Spring. Er, maybe three kinds. Unless there's a "purified", too, that's distinct from distilled.

Anyway, the only one I have a problem with is the spring water.

That's how they advertise it. There's actually nothing "state-of-the-art" about reverse osmosis. It was demonstrated in 1959. It's like calling an Atari 2600 state of the art videogame technology, if the Atari 2600 was like 2 decades older than it actually is.

I think there's a story about this. It used to be that those bottled waters talked about how pure and state of the art they were, while engineers scoffed and said they just used the old reverse osmosis technique. So, I think the bottled water companies put that information on themselves as "full disclosure" (in case eventually the FDA said they had to disclose they merely used reverse osmosis), but managed to spin it as a positive rather than a negative. After all, how many customers know what reverse osmosis actually is?

I notice that some water from Wal*Mart mentions it is purified in three ways: Reverse Osmosis, Distillation, and deionization.


Anyway, I was getting slightly more used to spring water before we finished moving, from having to drink up the pack we bought.
