I think my complaint really lies in how your freedom's really delayed in the game. In 64, after the unskippable movie scene that's mercifully short and mostly there to say "look at what we can do in 3D, guys!" the first level is all you need to get used to the basic controls, and then it doesn't take long to get access to the other three starting levels. Sunshine is not quite so apt.
(Nag, nag, nag!)
Conquered the Jyun Lake ruins, though I had a fair bit of trouble since every enemy generally has an attack that takes off over a third of your life bar (I haven't bought the second armour upgrade yet), so I ran out of my special weapon's ammo quickly and had no means of refilling it without simply leaving. The boss was a bit of a hassle since it alternates rather crazily between slow marching and a fast leap, not to mention how emulation glitches would render its shockwave invisible (and considering it could take me down to one bar of health, that's not good). I've officially gotten further in the game than I ever have before!
