Yesterday I went to Philadelphia on business.
Before I left, I told FO that my goal was to eat either one cheese steak or one chicken steak every day I was here (unless I find another food Philadelphia is
known for). I got my start today. For lunch I picked up one from a street vendor.
FO said that what they try to pass off as "cheese steaks" in Ohio suck pretty bad. They definitely don't taste anything like the one I got here
tastes. The guy put some ketchup on it -- I did not know that was the thing to do. However, it's pretty subtle -- if you weren't told it had ketchup,
you might miss it at first.
Oh, what actually happened was that the group I was with went out for lunch, planning to get Chinese. But a few decided to get Indian. Then the rest switched
en route to getting Indian. I wasn't in the mood, and saw the vendor, so...
I'm back in my hotel room now. I wandered around lost by myself for a little while before I found it. But that's how you learn! I recognized a few
landmarks from out way out.
The convention hotel does not have internet access. As usual.
I have to work on my paper. We spent more time on our presentations (I believe mine is essentially done), but I won't need to give that for a few days.
But the paper is due tonight! And I didn't start working on it until the ride here! Argh!!
Anyway, here are some photos.
I was in the hotel lobby this morning waiting for the rest of my group. I was tired, sat down on a sofa, and looked straight up. There was a sky light
overhead! What I'm looking at there is the rest of the hotel.
That is a building I kept my eye out for as I made it back to my hotel.
This is what I meant when I said buildings here look like palaces. I think this is city hall. Full size.
Every newspaper stand here I've seen has been closed, but we don't have things like this in Ohio at all. I imagine Philly as being as close to New
York City as you can get without actually being in New York City.
A lot of this city gives me "Godfather Part II" vibes.
More fancy architecture. Full size.
Another view of city hall, from further away, but you can get a better view of William Penn's hat. Full size.
