Alot of websites I visit have been displaying these banners lately. They advertise alot of really, really shitty stuff. Mostly horrible webcomics. Trust me; against my better judgement I checked out a couple of them... we're talking pime YWCIB material here, alot worse than that blog was reviewing near the end of its run. But, you don't have to take my word for it. Most of these you can tell that they suck from the banner alone, which often has a "preview" panel or strip.
And then, I saw one that made me angry.
Dear Freaks and Squeaks: I HATE YOU.
Let me count the ways.
1. Unfunny jokes? Check!
2. Wall of text, crammed into a single word balloon? Check!
3. Hideous artwork? Check!
4. Furry characters? Check!
But its biggest crime, by far, the one that made me angry, is the very concept of it. By the title, the writing style they're going for (but screw up horribly), and the general appearance of the characters, I assume this comic is "inspired" by Freaks and Geeks. NO. No no no nononono! This is not Freaks and Geeks. Freaks and Geeks is a funny, fairly realistic portrayl of High School life, with good writing and interesting characters that are easy to relate to.
GOOD WRITING. FUNNY. INTERESTING CHARACTERS. If you wanted to emulate Freaks and Geeks, those are the things you want to go for. You missed the mark BIG TIME.
Mr. author of Freaks and Squeaks, whoever you are, please change the name of your shitty comic, or drop dead. Preferably both.
