Movies are a bit less demanding of time and attention than games. So, anyway, last night we watched This is Spinal Tap, and tonight we watched Dragonslayer.

Joy of joys, not only was I sent away to a dungeon as a slave with a Battle Royale collar, I had to spend TEN years in it. And I thought it was bad breaking
out of prison in Fable and getting my year-old meat from a chest, here I get ten-year-old celery and tofu back, yum yum.
Also, I found something that might have been a joke, but if I ever find out it was serious I will find Peter Molyneux and beat him with a stack of game cases consisting of my copies of Fable, Fable: The Lost Chapters, Fable 2, and Black and White 2. For a bit of background, instead of the Guildmaster you're guided by Theresa, your sister from Fable 1, still alive after 500 years. Well, I found a book called "The Hero of Oakvale" which is about the events of Fable 1. It says something like how nobody knows the true nature of the hero, which I guess makes sense since you could be good or evil, but everyone agrees he slew the evil Jack of Blades twice, once in his human form and once in his dragon form, both times with the Sword of Aeons. First, Jack of Blades was the one wielding the Sword of Aeons when you fight him. And yes, you could weild the Sword of Aeons against Jack in his dragon form, but to get it you have to kill Theresa after you defeat Jack in his human form, and so she wouldn't be around to guide you in Fable 2. You could say he fought Jack with the Tear of Avo (the "good" version of the Sword of Aeons) but you still couldn't have it for Jack's human form, because to get the Tear of Avo you have to destroy the Sword of Aeons when you're given the choice between it and your sister. That better be a joke. Hell, maybe it's a troll for OCDs like me. Hey, Cloudbond, I don't know if you remember saying this, but a while back, you said you almost wanted a 360 again for Fable 2? I'd say you're better off just going through Fable: The Lost Chapters.

I actually did play Lost Chapters at some point. I rather liked it, although the dragon boss was stupid easy, even for me. I made some posts about it, but I
don't even remember what year it was I played it.
Yeah, Fable 2 was one thing that made me a little sad about not having the 360, but you've done a great job of curing that. |

Oh yes, I don't believe I mentioned what the bad guy's plan is.
He wants to rebuild this wish-giving tower so he can make his wish to destroy the world and build another, perfect one in its place. If at the very end Lucian reveals he really wants to destroy the world to prevent the world from being destroyed, Lionhead Studios will burn down. |

So I got the RGB Complete Series from Seabu today, and watched the first disc of Volume 2.
Did FO or Crawl or anyone else notice some really bad ghosting in the "You Can't Take it With You" episode? That episode gave me a headache to try and watch. I wasn't sure if it was my TV or Xbox or what, but I don't remember that happening in any other episode. |

You mean, doubled images horizontally offset? No, there are no technical problems like that in the set that I recall. Maybe there's a problem with your
connection.

No, what I mean is a ghost of the previous frame or two or three appearing over the current one.
For example, when the old guy was striking his gold with lightning, and the lightning went away, there was this dark spot where the lightning was. Or at one point when Peter turns his head, I could see the trail of movement. |

Uh, no, that's not normal. A problem with phosphors in your TV? Image persistence in your eye?

I saw the first half of Eraserhead. Holy crap, what a fucked up movie. The woman in the radiator, the "man-made" chickens, the baby, the main
character's hair...

I saw The Neverending Story, which I have somehow never seen before in my life, despite seeing the VHS box around the house so much when I was
younger. It was kinda interesting how, instead of going the typical route of "fantasy story allows inexperienced child to take care of his real world
troubles" ala Pagemaster or whatever, the kid just calls a hugeass dragon to sort out his bully problem. I'm under the impression the sequels
aren't worth seeing, though. That probably won't stop me.

I don't think I ever watched anything after "Who're You Calling Two-Dimensional?"
Let me know if this becomes a regular problem on future discs and I'll take it back. |

I wasn't sure if it was my TV or Xbox or what, but I don't remember that happening in any other episode.I didn't notice any problems until Season 4. Some episodes play too slowly and some too fast. It's a problem on all discs, from what I read. (If you go through that topic on the Arts & Ent. forum, you should eventually run into our posts about it.) As for that episode, I don't remember any problems with it. I do remember it actually having some of the best animation in Season 1 (like when the elevators become haunted). |

It's probably hard for a DVD to have a problem like that (any sort of "ghosting"). Think about how DVDs are coded -- they basically are a series
of frames. So, you can have problems with individual frames. We have Ren and Stimpy season 1 on DVD, and some things are out of focus or otherwise fucked up.
But how could one frame possibly bleed onto another, in the code?

I just watched the episode on YouTube. I didn't notice the lightning glitch Codie mentioned, but I did notice some odd problems with trailing. It seems
especially noticeable at the very end of the episode where they're pondering what to do with the money. I'm not sure why I would never have noticed
that before, though.
I'm also not sure if what I was seeing was due to the low video quality and is completely different from what Codie saw. |

So, I popped the disc into my computer and played it with the DVD player on it, and I could still see the ghosting. Or trailing, if that's what it's
actually called.
You can see two sets of arms (one is very faint, but it is there) from when Ray sat himself up.
Ray and Winston have an extra set of legs coming out the back of them.
Here's where I said you could see the movement trail when Peter turned his head.
Here's the lightning striking (maybe it was supposed to be made up of several layers appearing over one another. I wonder if this trick screwed up the rest of the episode)
And when it's done, you can see where it was (I guess I said earlier it was darker. I blame my dyslexia) Like I said, I didn't notice this in any other episode, and actually some parts of this episode were fine, but the rest of it (which is at least half, if not more) gave me a headache to watch. |

I don't even think what I saw on the YouTube video was that bad. Maybe the clarity of the DVD version has made it more noticeable.

Okay, it's obviously not a display artifact.
Could it be a result of frame interpolation? Maybe your DVD player and / or computer has a setting for that? I guess this says I could be wrong about the data on the DVD not possibly being wrong. I suppose frame interpolation could have been used when the DVD was mastered. However, you'd think everyone would have seen that -- unless there is more than one version of the DVD. See for example
The second complaint is that, while frame interpolation can reduce or eliminate much of the film judder we see in movies, it sometimes introduces other artifacts which may be just as problematic. For example, instead of the judder, we may see some ghosting as subjects move across the screen, or some unnatural disintegration of the picture during momentary fast pans of the camera. Crawl and 1OOO |

Thought this could almost be a single fucked up line
Frame interpolation can be beneficial for all animated films, from Toy Story to Shrek to Finding Nemo to Ratatouille. Yes, ALL animated films. Films that run the entire gamut from one Pixar film, all the way to another Pixar film! And then on to another Pixar film, too! And maybe one Dreamworks film. Just as long as they're all computer animated. It works for films that are computer animated, all the way to other films that are also computer animated.
