Holy shit at the coupon mom thing. The funny thing is, scanning so many coupons gives the cashier a job. Just a couple of weeks ago, someone was complaining that those "self check out" lines at the supermarket put cashiers out of work. The only thing annoying about getting a lot of coupons from a customer is if they don't work. That can be from one customer using another's coupon (it could be tied to their grocery card) or the product size isn't quite right, whatever. We could sometimes force a coupon or two through, but after that, you had to call a manager and a big line would start to form.
I also don't think people are really going out of work because of self checkout at this point. Most stores only have a small self checkout section, anyway, but those potential redundant employees would probably be better used for stocking shelves or something rather than being let go. You also need to have staff handy because people have trouble with the machines ALL THE TIME. Usually people standing in front of me when I'm in a hurry.
BTW, the self checkout lanes at our grocery store work just fine with coupons. You just scan it, then deposit it into the coupon slot.
For a while when I was out of work, I was doing this thing where you would pay a couple of dollars a month and you would get this chart showing you the best deals at your grocery store and how much of it you should buy (whether it was an okay deal, or something you should buy a freezer full of). I was saving a lot of money with that, but it's also a lot of work, and I found that once I started going to work full time again, I no longer had the patience for it.
Also, this is neither good nor bad, but at the end of the day, we would put all the coupons from that day into one big bag, which would get sent away at the end of the week. It was a pretty large bag and it would be stuffed by Saturday night. That's just a small drug store. I can't imagine how many coupons the big stores must have around.
