The asshole electric company completely screwed up and it looks like I'll have to contact AT&T directly to get our phone and internet switched, which is how I wanted to do it in the first place. When I called to get the electric power at the new house changed over into our name, they insisted on switching our phone service for us, too, which I didn't want to do right away because I still wanted phone and internet at the apartment until we left. But they were fucking insistent on it and said they could set it to switch at a later date so it wouldn't switch before we left. I told them I didn't know exactly what day we'd be ready, but Crawl said to just let it go for July 31st since we'd definitely be out by then. They told me if I needed to change the date, I could just call to change it.

Well, of course, we're moved in and ready now, so I called to change the date and no matter how many times I told the rep that I already went through this process before and just needed to change the date, he sent me through the whole routine all over again. At the end he said it was all set up to switch on the 10th of July.

Come the 10th of July, we have no phone service and no internet yet. I drove all the way back to the apartment on Saturday, hooked the phone up and called them, only to find out they aren't open on the weekends. I left the phone there and drove back on Monday after work and called. They said the reason it didn't switch is because the "bundle" I requested wasn't available in that area. I told them I didn't ask for nor agree to any such "bundle" (it was some long distance thing with call forwarding and other features). All I wanted was my land line, no long distance, and my DSL shut off here and switched on there. That's it. (So, apparently, that second rep not only didn't just switch the date like I asked, but he signed me up for some bundle that I didn't ask for and didn't want, and it would've cost about $60 a month for it - which he never mentioned, either.)

So, then they said I'll get a phone call confirmation within the next 24 hours. This morning I check my email at work and I have an email from them saying that they couldn't process my order.

Why the hell were these people so insistent on doing this when they aren't capable? I could've called AT&T directly and had this done by now.

Also, I got spammed by the DirecTV company as a result of this.

Edit - Also, could anyone else who has a flyingomelette.com subdomain try connecting to the FTP and tell me if it works? I just read something in the news that suggests that FTP has been proven insecure and I wonder if Dreamhost has blocked it for some reason. I've been trying to find information on it at Dreamhost's main site, but I've been unable so far.
