This makes me feel old. Everything I knew about or liked is disappearing due to business and age. Sure am glad I have some rum left.
I am a scuzzer MK-1. I clean, build, and transport goods.
How may I be of help? |

I feel archaic. I remember when GeoCities was done by neighborhoods and you got to choose your own... and when Angelfire was that weird tannish layout and...
...I feel archaic now, like a DOS machine out collecting dust. This kind of depresses me. =( |

FO asked, are there any Geocities sites worth archiving (like we did with the NES Enshrined, the NES Retreat, etc.)?

The three that come to mind for me are:
Danbird's NES Site - The design is a nightmare, but some of the content is good. The NES Fashion Show made me laugh hysterically when I first read it. The Realm of Gigs - Dan Giglio's last attempt at maintaining a website. The only thing is, it doesn't have a whole lot of content. Huge Darius Battleships - I think this might be the only dedicated Darius fansite in existence. There's also NEStopia. The guy who made this site was the first person to sign my guestbook who wasn't from the Game Pond. But I haven't looked at that site in so many years, I can't remember if it would be worth saving or not. |

This saddens me. HonestGamers began as a GeoCities site and I've always appreciated the service for that reason, even though I grew past needing a site on
its space a long time ago. Paid hosting options start at such low prices now and you can get free hosting on godaddy with a domain purchase, so something like
Geocities was bound to expire eventually. As someone else noted, also, Facebook and MySpace and such exist. Most people who made GeoCities sites ultimately
couldn't do anything more with them than basic profile pages anyway, so the competition must have become too fierce.

Be honest about your passion for games. Besides contributing user reviews, FAQs, cheats and other content, you can post in your free blog and on the community forums... or leave ratings for your favorite new, retro and import games from a list that numbers over 30,000! It's all free. It's all fun. It's all awesome! |
