Twitter and Facebook need to go. |

Seriously. If I ever get roped into using either of these sites, it will be the lowest point of my life so far.

What about poor Tweeter? How do you think it makes him feel?
I actually got some-what into the latter for awhile, but it quickly lost its charm, and I realized anything I posted there would be out there in cyberspace forever. What if someone wanted to track me down? Also, if you post pictures or other media onto the site, anytime you download a new application your pictures and stuff are no longer yours.

This is what I meant. Looks like they've changed the wording slightly to make it less threatening, but it basically says you are giving up your personal information and pictures to a faceless corperation for them to use for whatever insidious purposes. Actually, just by posting a picture on Facebook at all, you might find that same picture floating all over the internet by the next day. There's even some scams where a hacker uses one of your friends' accounts to redirect you to a website that has your pictures on it and basically says if you want them taken off the site, you have to pay money.

I'm not saying I like Facebook or anything like that, but this is really no different than the rest of the internet. I can put a picture of myself on my site and sites like Google and Picsearch can make it available on their search results. And anyone could take it and put it anywhere they want. |

Well, I'm guessing the scammers specifically use Facebook because it's easy to hack, which is scary enough on its own. That, or because the kind of
people who use Facebook are more likely to fall for it.

I guess one issue could be with intellectual property rights. Some places will claim that anything you upload to them becomes their property that they can do
with as they please. So, for example, if I was writing the RAU Gallery on a free blogging service instead of my own domain, they might have such a clause in
their TOS that could potentially allow them to use my characters in any way they choose, and even make money off them without paying royalties, and I
wouldn't even be able to demand a Cease & Desist. Of course, I'd have to wonder how common such cases are. I've yet to hear of one.

"twetter" sounds like a weak variation of blog RSS feeds, and as for facefucking book... a board i've been visiting since the late 90s already
implemented facebook-like features to it.. i've been making fun of it ever since.

Twitter's not that bad. It's just like a somewhat boring chatroom, and some people who are halfway decent at programming can make it do some neat
stuff.
Facebook has slowly been getting on my bad side lately with the applications, but it's been so convenient for contact info, I don't really want to give it up. After I graduate, there are going to be people I'll want to stay in touch with, and facebook is best for that. |

What's the difference between facebook and myspace for that?

Yeah, it seems like just a few years ago, people were saying that same thing about Myspace, so I'm not sure why there's so much hype for Facebook now
since it seems like it's the same thing.

I get the sense that Facebook is supposed to be Myspace for grownups.

Facebook was originally intended for college students, which I don't think is too far from myspace's target audience.

Twitter Suffers from Disloyalty
You mean people with short attention spans (ie, Vanishing Teenagers) eventually lose interest in an internet fad? Wow! That's never happened before!! Really, why is this news? I never saw stuff like this in the news during the heyday of places like Ezboard and Geocities. |

There are so many stories about Twitter on CNN.com that I would almost think CNN owns it. I've also seen such TV stations as the Weather Channel
implementing Twitter and Facebook as a way to share opinions.

I've heard rumors that facebook might start charging money. I think it's just a rumor, though. What it might be, however, is facebook may be planning
new features that you have to pay for in addition to their basic services, and someone misunderstood that as meaning that the main services were being changed
so that you'd have to pay for them. Then, through that misunderstanding, the rumors could have started.

I've heard that Facebook is essentially a glorified spamming system.

Huh?
Anyway, what weirds me out is when I get invitations to join Facebook from people I don't know. Why are they trying to friend me? Do I know them somehow and just forgot? Did I maybe come within 500 yards of them once and the standard for invitations on Facebook is very low? Or is it just a spam thing? Some post I found:
The twitter thing, well I have twitter and I check it everyday. It's not all about posting what you are doing. Even though the last thing I posted was what I was doing lol. How I describe it as like a delayed chat. Most of what I post is replies to people and things to engage others in a conversation. I post questions, things I want feedback about, replies to answer others questions etc. It's too bad we don't have a way to do this "delayed chat" thing. Like, where I could post a question, and someone (Crawl, for example) could see my question and post an answer to it hours later. Damn, what a shame we can't do stuff that without getting Twitter. Of course, I'm not being entirely fair. Without Twitter, I can't engage random strangers in off topic conversation. And that's pretty critical. |
