I just hope that if I do adopt Lady, that it works out okay. It seems a LOT of cats get adopted, only to be returned in a few months or less. The day I took home Hermes, he was hiding under the cages and we had a really hard time getting him out. Another cat named Nikki was running around at the time and he was being considerably friendlier with everyone and this one worker said to me, "Are you sure you wouldn't want this cream tabby, instead?" I went back several days later to tell them how Hermes was doing and Nikki had been adopted. Well, he's back already.

Another time, the woman who named Hermes told me about this cat they had for a long time named Octavious who had difficulty adjusting. She said he finally calmed down and was adopted, and the person who took him even wrote into their newsletter about him, going on about how well he adjusted to his new home. He's back there now. I actually saw him in the window as I drove over there today, and I thought, "That looks like that Otcavious cat...", and yeah it was him.

There have been others that were adopted out and then returned shortly after.

I almost gave up on Hermes and I don't know what I would've done if we hadn't figured out how to get him to stop rampaging at night. Of course, in a house that won't matter.

Lady's personality isn't quite like any of our other cats. She's cranky, but she likes attention. She likes to play, but I imagine she's like Pepper and would rather play alone. (Unless her and Pepper would like to play together. Neither are as rough as Mel. Pepper might be intimidated by her size, though, but Lady has no front claws.) She's like Mel and Hermes in the sense that you can pet her a little, but she'll eventually get annoyed and want you to stop. But unlike Mel and Hermes, she doesn't nip. She just starts caterwauling and maybe gets up and walks away.

My, those kittens are getting really big. I'm surprised more haven't been adopted yet. This town makes it very difficult for people to adopt pets, though. It's hard to find good rental property that allows them. That's probably why they don't discourage people from adopting more cats even when they already have some.

Pepper is making me melt right now. She took a nap for awhile, then she came out to eat some dry food and get a drink. When she was done, she climbed right back up into it, and she's cleaning herself inside of it. She even does the "Rendezvous with Rama" with her head sitting out on the shelf that's in front of the opening.

One of these days, I should get my own digital camera, so I'll always have one for times like this.

When we came home from grocery shopping, Pepper was in the big tower's house again. She left it before Crawl could get his camera ready.

Sometimes the eye that Hermes had the injury on looks weepy or at least more noticeably wet than the other eye. I wonder if it's sensitive to allergens and light because of that injury. That might explain why he almost never looks out the windows.

Pepper in a house!

My cats like to walk over to me when I'm clipping coupons and either sit on the coupon pile or the unclipped paper or both. Mel and Hermes do that when I'm on the floor. Tonight, I sat on the futon to clip coupons and Pepper jumped up. She walked onto the papers I hadn't yet clipped, laid down and curled up on them. It's like...what am I supposed to do now??

They're both napping. Pepper's curled up inside the house, although she's sleeping with her eyes open. Mel is curled up in the second-highest ring and has one front paw sticking over the side with her head rested on that paw's arm.
