Gah! One of the cats there (a calico named Penelope) bit me on the back of the hand. She didn't draw blood, but she did scratch the surface of my skin. I put some Polysporin on it. Man, even Baby doesn't break the skin when she nips. Penelope was roaming loose and I was playing with her - rolling a spongy ball towards her, which she'd pounce on and go chasing - and when she was done, I leaned over to pet her, and that's when she got me.

Anyway, Baby is still shy, but when she purrs, she really motors. She's almost as loud as Caramel. Mel's purring sounds like loud snorting, but Baby is more like a low continuous rumble.

Lady started rolling when I was petting her, and I had to push her back onto the cat tree because she almost rolled right off.

Crawl said earlier that he thinks Mel (and maybe even Hermes) has a hard time figuring out that our hands are part of us. I think that cats must see us like Bongo-Bongo - a head and two detached hands. The reason I say this is because Lady stood up and put her face right up into my face. I lifted a hand to pet her and when she saw it coming, she flinched and had to sniff it before she relaxed again. She did the same thing when I lifted my other hand.

Poor Mel. She thinks that bag of Yesterday's News cat litter is food because it's shaped like a bag of cat food. She keeps going into the bathroom, sniffing it, and then sitting down next to it while glancing at me.

Pepper vomited a little, but mostly liquid and some of the food that I fed her earlier, which was partially-digested. She still looks a little out of it.

I'm really worried about her. Unless she's 100% normal tomorrow morning, I'm going to call the vet.

She started acting like she wanted breakfast (though she didn't meow for it, but she doesn't always do that anyway), so I gave her some wet food and she ate part of it. She's resting on the "other" office chair, but she still doesn't seem 100% right.

I made a 9:40 am vet appointment for her. She's the only one of our three cats we've never personally taken to the vet.

That wasn't actually maintenance. It was a landscaping company they hired. I saw their truck on the way out. I still hid the carrier in a blanket to be safe, but I doubt a landscaping company will know or care about the pet rules.

Anyway, the vet is going to keep her and observe for the day, and do some bloodwork on her. I go back for her at 5:40.

I'm gonna take a shower and go apply for another job.

The vet felt all along her belly and said it felt "squishy", which means she could have more diarrhea coming. The vet said that her belly is not in any pain, though.

I'm still in a world of depression without her, though. I always worry that when I have to leave a cat at the vet that they'll think I abandoned them (and Pepper still has nightmares that I think are related to being abandoned by her former owners).

She actually seemed to pick up a little at the vet's office. She was exploring all around the waiting room. She looked a little scared, though. When she explored around Crawl's mother's place, she was relaxed and curious. Today, she looked more nervous and unsure. Probably because she's not feeling well, and there were a couple of barking dogs over on the "dog" side of the waiting room (thank goodness they left after a few minutes).

The vet and her assistant both said Pepper is really cute.
