I made this topic so that I wouldn't have to make a new one every time I decided to make a list like this.
I'll kick this off with a "Top Ten Videogame Music Tracks" list.
First of all, the runners up: "The Great Mighty Poo," "The DK Rap," any song from Rhapsody...
I'm kidding! I'm kidding! Don't hurt me!
All right, for real this time, let's get this started!
10. Beware the Forest Mushrooms! (Super Mario RPG)
Also sometimes known as "Geno's Maze", this is the music that plays in the forest area where you first get Geno in your party. I actually think this song can get a little annoying, but it's still a fun tune. It's light-hearted, but at the same time, mysterious!
9. Pokey Means Business (Earthbound)
This is the music that plays when you fight Heavily Armed Pokey. It's a great piece with an exciting fast-paced melody in the beginning that sounds like it could have come straight from an NES game. Then, halfway through, the style abruptly changes to awesome hard-core metal, in a move that I can only describe as "mad genius."
8. Corridors of Time (Chrono Trigger)
It was hard to pick just one song from Chrono Trigger, but I decided on this. I think this one requires a bit more explaination. This piece stands out in my mind because it's the first thing you hear when you first arrive in Zeal. You see that floating country for the first time, flying abouve the clouds with that giant waterfall, and this music is playing in the background. It's exotic and breathtaking.
Other songs from CT I considered: Schala's Theme, World Revolution, Frog's Theme, Sealed Door, Confronting Magus... and a few others... G
7. Gurgu Valcano (Final Fantasy)
This is one of, if not the best, pieces of music from the first final fantasy game. I like the original version, but the remix featured in the Mythril Mines track of Chocobo Racing is even better!
I almost didn't have any Final Fantasy tracks at all on here, but then I remembered this one.
6. Corneria (Star Fox)
An awesome, epic tune to get your blood pumping at the very beginning of the game. Took a while for this one to grow on me, but it's pretty awesome.
5. Dire Dire Docks (Super Mario 64)
So, I had to choose a song that represents the entire Mario series. Did I pick Stage 1-1, the most well-known song in the series (and possibly videogame history)? No! I chose this song! This track plays in Jolly Roger Bay and Dire Dire Docks. Peaceful and beautiful, it's unlike any other song in the series. So, I guess it doesn't really represent the entire Mario series. It's still a great song.
4. Bloody Tears (Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest)
Castlevania 2 is where this song originated from, but it's been remixed so many times in so many games, I couldn't pick just one version! I think it's a little short, maybe that's just because of how fast-paced it is!
3. Gerudo Valley (Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)
Another game/series with so much great music to choose from, but this is definetly the best! It's exotic, fast-paced, and totally epic! I've been using the word "epic" way too much!
2. Willy's Castle- Stage 1 (Mega Man)
Oh yeah, you knew this one was coming. One of the best songs from the 8-bit era. It has a sense of ugency about it, but also uplifting in a weird sort of way. This song says "This is it, you're almost there! YOU CAN WIN!!" It's length is also impressive. You didn't see alot of songs this long or intricate in games back then. In fact, there aren't alot of them now, either.
1.5- Heath Ledger's "The Joker"
One of the best performances to ever come out of Hollywood! Seriously! We're not just over-hyping this role because the guy died, or anything like that. What do you mean this has nothing to do with the rest of the list? Heath Ledger's Joker belongs on every list!
1. Stickerbrush Symphony (Donkey Kong Country 2)
This calming song, with its intricate melody is so beautiful, it almost seems out of place in a videogame. Yeah, I'm not very good at talking about music, if you couldn't tell by this point.
And that's the end! If you want to hear any of these songs, FO has MP3's of all of them. Also, I'll be putting some links to good, funny, or interesting remixes of these songs into this post in the future, so be sure to check back here later.
Remember that this topic is for ANY Top Whatever lists, and not just this one.
