I like calling burgers "Hamburger Sandwiches" because that's how the White Castle box still refers to them. That makes me laugh every time.

An open faced sandwich? - This has always struck me as being funny, and I just never really thought to mention it until now. How is it a sandwich if the meat
isn't "sandwiched" between two slices of bread? Otherwise, it's just a pile of meat on a slice of bread. That's like saying toast is a
butter and/or jelly sandwich.
A hamburger? - Yeah. I won't dispute White Castle, I suppose. A sloppy joe? - Almost the same as a hamburger, so I'd say yes. A Philly Cheesesteak? - Haven't had an authentic one of those in years! Damn, I'd say no. It's more like a hoagie. A gyro? - No, that's more like a burrito. A hotdog? - Definitely not. A burrito? - Definitely not. Wasn't there an infamous lawsuit about this and it got worked into some commercials? A tortada? - There are so many different types of Mexican foods that I don't even know what this is, but I don't know of ANY Mexican food that I'd call a sandwich, so I'll guess no. An icecream sandwich?- LOL. In name only. |

How is it a sandwich if the meat isn't "sandwiched" between two slices of bread? Otherwise, it's just a pile of meat on a slice of bread. That's like saying toast is a butter and/or jelly sandwich. That's my argument exactly. A Philly Cheesesteak? - Haven't had an authentic one of those in years! Damn, I'd say no. It's more like a hoagie. But a hoagie is like a Subway Sandwich... A hotdog? - Definitely not.And this is kind of similar to a hoagie, too, and one time I had a chicken cheesesteak served to me on a hot dog bun (though I wasn't happy about that.) |

An open faced sandwich? - Yes
A hamburger? - Yes A sloppy joe? - Yes A Philly Cheesesteak? - Yes A gyro? - No A hotdog? - Yes A burrito? - No A tortada? - No An icecream sandwich?- Yes Basically, if it's between two bread-like things, it's a sandwich, and if it's only one bread-thing it's an open-faced sandwich. But if it's in a single wrap or shell that goes around it, it's a burrito, taco, or gyro. |

You know those open-faced sandwiches? Are they even
sandwiches? I mean, look at 'em! They're not even sandwiched between two pieces of bread! What's up
with that?!
