Hmm, I completed Dragon Warrior recently - killed the Dragonlord on my second attempt. Level 19 and with best equipment. Avoiding many enemies en route.
I guess I had an easier time because:

I had difficulty with the Arwing segment before Dragon Rock: I could get nine out of ten gold rings, and couldn't find the tenth one anywhere, and the
walkthrough I was using said this segment was too easy to even bother supplying a walkthrough for. Ironic, considering I had no difficulty with any of the
previous segments. Turned out the big yellow disc with a red X on it was the tenth ring, and needed a bomb to make it collectible. I'd seen those in
previous segments, and nowhere before in the game had it even been hinted that's what you do with those things! The many hours spent dumping nonsensical
expospeak on me to help explain why I'm doing such-and-such in the story really could've been used in favour of doing useful things, like
telling me that. >:U
Dragon Rock was probably the most unexciting area so far. The puzzles were nothing new and more demonstrations of wasted potential (I've ridden three creatures in the game so far and none have involved BLOOD AND GORE RAMPAGES), and the visuals lacked a lot of the eye candy of most other areas, so that couldn't even make up for it. Plus half the time spent there was on three very, very slow shooting-at-crap-that's-going-to-blow-up-your-ride segments, one of which was actually the boss fight. Fun times. I currently have to go back to another place I've been to before to put this SpellStone away. It involves another loathsome "hit switches so this jug can ever-so-slowly tilt forward and maybe, if it wants to, put out one of four torches" segment, so I'll leave it for another time. |

Level 22. I give in, the Axe Knight tile is a much more efficient way to level up. Maybe I can listen to some music while I work on it. I reached maximum Gold
almost the same time I reached this level.
If the level up messages are accurate, there are some serious diminishing returns after reaching about level 19 or 20. |

Level 23. I did get 4 critical hits during the last 25% of that level. One of them was for (IIRC) the largest amount of damage I've yet done in the game,
134HP to an Axe Knight. I don't even bother to use Stopspell on the Knights anymore. Even if they were incredibly lucky and kept you asleep for several
turns, they'd probably need more than 10 hits to kill you, maybe even 15 or 20 if they were unlucky.
Some trivia... at Level 20, you've earned a total of 29,000 experience points, so you aren't even halfway to Level 30 (65,535 points). More trivia... in the Japanese version, you would reach level 29 at around 60,000 experience points and then gain another level after about 500 points more. |

I was going to play Spore, but I had to download some update. Okay, so I wasn't going to PLAY Spore, because the actual game kinda well... sucks. Anyways,
I just wanted to play around with the creature creation system, but I had to wait, like, half an hour for the damn update to finish! Okay, it's done now.
Time to go make some monsters with eyestalks for penises.

At least tell me your Spore ID so I can gaze upon the unspeakable freaks of nature you've created.

There's only a few things there. Three versions of one
creature, the apparently unfinished vehicle, and a building with spots on it. I may have deleted other stuff, or it never got uploaded.

Weird, I've made alot more things than are on my page on the Spore site. I bet their database must be buggy as hell.

Last night I got Ana (poor man's Paula), ground some levels on her, then wasn't sure where to go next.
Today I started with the old man in a mountain who's never had a cold. I finally find him, but he just speaks in "Meh"s. So, I guess he's been hanging around the Internet a while. Turns out he's missing his Dentures. I find them under a sign and give them back to him. What does he do? Tell me where to go next? Give me a plot-important item? Teach me another song note? No, he fills every empty spot in my Inventory with Mouthwash. It looks funny on paper, but it's just annoying in the game. Then a random townsperson tells me the piano in the haunted house in Spookane (this game has the most retarded names) plays a song. Yay, a lead! I find the house and get butchered by the Armor enemies. |

How many songs do you have so far? I know where they all are if you need hints....

I have three, but I know where three others are and where another one probably is.
One is the haunted piano. From what I read at Lost Levels, you get the seventh note from the second to last dungeon, and then Queen Mary remembers the last one on her own. A girl gave me a clue that the dragon at the bottom of Magicant teaches me a note, but I can't wake it up yet. Haven't a clue about the last one, but I've still got quite a bit of game to go, probably. |

Got the song from the piano, and then I found the next one shortly after from a cactus wearing a sombrero.
Then I tried to investigate a ruin, and got laid out by a giant robot that was guarding it. I hope I'm in at least the second half of the game by now. |

You need a tank to beat the robot, and entering the ruins is optional and not required to finish the game.
I'm just telling you this so you don't spend 20 hours level grinding in an attempt to beat that thing.

Just reached levels 24 and 25 in one sitting. Didn't notice any further relationship between critical hits and experience point progress.
Level 25 was the first time in several levels that I got a meaningful increase in strength. Trivia: There are two versions of Dragon Warrior. The major difference is that in the earlier version (PRG0 if you have the ROM), it will say, "Thy hits decreased by 5". In the updated version (PRG1), it says, "Thy hit points decreased by 5." This apparently makes emulator movies from one go out of sync if used on the other. There's also a grammar fix on the title screen. I have the newer cartridge. There might have also been a change from Treasure Box to Treasure Chest, but I'm not positive on that.

After some overly long flying segments and a really bad singing performance I got Teddy, who kicked Lloyd off my team. Part of me wants to like Lloyd, but the
other part of me keeps telling the other half he isn't Jeff, get over it.
The encounter rate is frustrating me so bad I've resorted to checking walkthroughs every now and then because I don't want to deal with trying to find my next stop while getting interrupted every other second. I am nearing the end of the game, at least. Thank God.

Crawl and 1OOO wrote:It's been a while since I played. Anyway, I got through north Sabre, saving the villagers, beating the boss at the top, etc. I think that's when you get the wind bracelet? After that you go to Portia. I didn't quite remember that part, and I'm a little fuzzy on it now. I think you eventually get the lime flute from the queen. That lets you progress in the waterfall cave, and I think that's where you get the water sword. Then "Rage", from the lake, gives you the water ball. That lets you make bridges of ice over rivers. I went to the village of the amazons and got another bracelet. I also got the Platinum armor there, which is cheaper than it was at Portia. Other than that, I think you're supposed to have the transform magic before you do much else. I found that the queen was a wise man and got a spell from her. And I saved the dolphin. And I got the fog lamp. That's enough to let me explore the next area, but I remember that I still need a plant for something. It's been so long since I replayed this game that I don't remember what it's for, though. |

I reached levels 26 and 27. If I wasn't hallucinating, I think I killed some of the Axe Knights in one hit without it being an Excellent Move. Don't
really feel like I've gotten much stronger since level 21, though. I'm curious to see how the level 30 Dragonlord fight data compares to that first
fight.

I found a browser based Nintendo emulator!
http://www.nintendo8.com Their selection is a lttle limited, and controlling with the keyboard didn't work out too well with most games. But still... pretty nifty. I played a bit of Contra. I didn't do too good, and it was hard to control with just the keyboard, but it really didn't seem all that hard. It didn't seem like you'd need 30 lives to pass the first level, anyways.

They have Might and Magic! Maybe I'll try that out. I didn't see it at first because for some reason, it's under adventure instead of RPG.
