One thing that occurred to me the other day was that I've touch-typed for so long now that it's automatic, and I in fact no longer consciously know
what fingers hit what keys. Like, I was thinking to myself, "What finger hits A and S?" The pinky hits one, the ring finger the other, but I
couldn't remember which was which.

I hit both with my ring finger, though when I put my hands in the default position (or whatever it's called) my pinky rests on A.
Sometimes I hit letters with a different finger if there's some word that uses a lot of letters on one side of the keyboard. For instance, if I type "pilot," I swing my middle finger up to the "o" even though that's usually my ring finger's job. So even which finger I hit a particular key with isn't always the same, which makes remembering it harder. |

I don't know if I ever learned to use the shift keys correctly. You're suppose to hit the shift with the opposite hand. I think I sometimes use the
same hand.
So, let's see. While typing this... Okay, almost all of the sentences in this post began with a right hand letter, and I used my left hand to hit the shift. For the S, I thought I first used my left hand, but for that second one there I used my right. For the W, I used my right hand both times. For the F, my left hand. I guess I must mostly use my left hand for the shift. W is different because it's harder to hit both keys with the same hand at the same time, because I'd use my pinky for one and the ring finger for the other. (Same is true for S, but I can leave my hand on the home row for the S.) |

I should be use to the style where you rest your fingers on the home row keys and using all your fingers to type, but for some reason, I'm not, and
I've been around keyboards and computers for...probably 12 years now?!! I use my index fingers, my thumbs, and my pinkies. Luckily, though, despite not
using all my fingers, I can touch type at a very fast pace!

I just realized I never used my left pinkie, and I only use my right one to hit the shift key.

I always use my left pinky when using shift, no matter which side the other key I'm hitting is on.
I live on the internet.
