I need your help guys! I feel that I'm too uptight on these boards, and it isn't a true reflection of my personality at all. I need lessons on how to
be silly and spontaneous, so I thought I'd ask for help from the best.

If you want my honest opinion, I think the best thing to do is to just be yourself. So far, the impression you've made on me is that you're someone who
is honestly enjoying the topics of conversation around here and wants to contribute in a positive way, even in cases when opinions don't match up (which is
inevitable; sometimes I feel like the only time I ever talk directly to Sethra is when I want to disagree with her on something
Also, not everyone here has the same sense of humor, so what comes funny to some people won't to others. If you post a joke or a humorous picture, some people will find it funny, but some people may not and that's just how it is. But the only way anyone would seriously get annoyed is if it was intentionally disruptive (we once had a problem with a user who thought it was hilarious to post gigantic offtopic pictures in every thread, and another user who felt it necessary to complain about every single picture in the Post a Picture topics that he didn't think was funny, and another one who felt that being the "forum comedian" involved posting "fag" over and over again - so as long as you don't do anything THAT stupid, you'll be fine.) |

Okay, thanks for the advice! This place has really helped me change the way I view my own opinions. For example, I used to think that if I didn't like
something that is otherwise popular, that there must be something I didn't "get." But now I can honestly say that I didn't like Iron Man very
much, and ICO, while it tells an effective story in an interesting way, is a mediocre game and isn't "art."
I feel like I've been posting too much lately, though. I'm probably going to take a break for a while, play some games, watch some DVDs, write some reviews, draw, maybe even get caught up in school!

Of course, if you just want to see some examples of forum silliness for the hell of it, I've got some archived here...
Jack Sheen has a close encounter with the Game Pond's Total Nonsense Forum - Might want to CTRL+F "I swear" and read from there because the entire beginning of that sketch is a continuation from a previous sketch and a setup for a future one (that I still haven't finished). Good example of why pranks never work on us. The bottom of this one has a collection of Troy's nonsense from over the years. The bottom of this one is a James FP Jamboree. Troy Part 2, if you didn't get enough of him the first time. |

I've actually already read a couple of those. That's why I referred to you guys as "the best."
That one about Jack at the Game Pond might hold a clue about who it is living in James's salt shaker. That one post that says "Hello there! I seem to have lost my clothes..." I still need to upload some pictures I've drawn. I can never figure out how to resize them, and my scanner makes them HUGE! I've got some pics I've done for school, but because they're from references they don't fully reflect my own style. I could probably look through some of my note books to see if I can find that pic I drew of "Walrusman," a fat, middle-aged superhero who fights bad guys based on Beatles songs. Catchphrase: "I am the Walrus! Coo coo ka-choo!" |

I just read that one about the prankster. I love how you outsmarted him by being utterly stupid.
Stupid in a good way, of course. As for pie: I try to like new pie, I really do. However, today's pies tend to be half-baked. I prefer old pie, though some of them have been around longer than I have. |

I guess you can say you "pied" him in the face?
You know what would really cheer me up? If a RAU character talked to me. *puppy dog eyes* |

I was in the same boat in a couple years ago. I knew this place was quality but I was afraid I had to "post up" to the standards of the board and
that made me nervous, but over time I got more comfortable and the text just flows now.

But yeah, if you read my posts from ten years ago, I was very serious all the time. I sometimes would link to something I found funny, but I would never try to
make any jokes or do anything goofy because I was afraid it wouldn't go well. But life has taught me that there are more important things to worry about
than telling a bad joke on the internet. And of course familiarity with everyone here makes it easier to be relaxed.

Mine wasn't as funny as the others because I'm not that funny of a person.
The funniest parts of that are other people's replies to me, with Magnus Crowe's Giant Topic Eraser post being the showstopper.
Flying Omelette wrote:Well, if it weren't for all of those disagreements, I probably never would have given Real Ghostbusters a second chance, and even though everything beyond Season 1 and the Syndicated episodes is reconfirming what I didn't like about it years ago, at least those two parts of the show were well worth the revisit. It was nice hearing Lorenzo Music in a role he seemed to really enjoy other than Garfield. |

In a lot of my oldest posts, I'd brought over a lot of bullshit I picked up from another forum, like poor logic and mistaking snarkiness for wit in my
replies.
The one that sticks out in my mind the most was when we were discussing censorship in Sega games and I said the Genesis version of Strider removed the "All sons of old gods die" line from the road to the final boss. Crawl said it might have had more to do with voice on the Genesis being like Thunder Force 2's "garble garble garble, good luck." Instead of doing the sensible thing and telling him there was text with it, I responded something like "You need voice capabilities to leave in a line of text?" To this day, I've wanted to punch out my past self for that, but then I'd probably create a time paradox and a universe implosion. While I do still occasionally say stuff even I'll look back on a couple days later and think was off the wall, I've mostly weeded that stuff out (leaving the forum I picked that crap up from helped greatly, I'm sure). |

I wouldn't worry about trying to be funny greybob. Stuff just flows after awhile. Nobody will get angry at lame jokes. FO's got the best board around,
that's why I keep coming back. Look at me. I got what? 400 some odd posts? I've been in this community since Gamepond closed. Quality baby, not
quantity, that's Lighthouseboy's way. Well most of the time. Some of the time. Maybe once I said something clever? Shit, i'm an ass.
On the topic of thoses Email's FO: I got to start paying more attention to your main site more often, that stuff was great. Morons unbound on the internet. Your rebuttal to the guy complaining about yoshi's story made me shoot pop out of my nose!

I misread that as "shoot poop out of my nose" and thought that had to be the single most unpleasant thing I've ever made anyone do.

As much as I love seeing FO tear into the lamers, in my humble opinion, I think the best RAU Sketches are the ones that involve the characters in their own
situations. It's hard to pick a Top 5, but if forced to...
