I got to the end of Chapter 3 with Ellen, and then quit the game, probably forever. Maybe if I wasn't cursed by the knowledge that I'd have to replay
each annoying area a second time, I'd be able to push through it somehow. Glad I didn't pay much of anything for it.

Mario Sunshine's camera and controls fucking SUCK.
I was trying to climb that tower in the port level with the platform void in it, and you do it by wall jumping between to two steel constuction girders, then jumping over to the tower when you get to the top. At least five times times, probably more like ten, Mario's angling got slightly off as he got towards the top and he went past the girder I was jumping towards, and I had to start it all over again! And don't get me started on the scuba diving controls. |

I'm probably only going to play Mario Sunshine until I get enough stars to beat the game. I like those floating platform segments and I think the prospect
of finding them is the only thing that keeps me going, but the water gun parts are shit.
I think I have about fourty shines now, and I unlocked the Yoshis and two new areas. |

I actually finished drawing a scene for AT6. Now if I can keep that up I might have that chapter done by the end of the year.

Back to Dragon Warrior 2. I think that thing about the guy teaching the silver key must be some weird red herring. So, I went to the other monolith, and the cave there turned out to be pretty short. It lead to a couple of islands right away. One was too tiny to have anything on it. The other, so far, has the town of Hamlin. I'll bet that's where the Princess is. I might need to level up there, because the Centipods in that area are tough on Glynn. The equipment there is expensive. I might be able to buy the Broad Sword right away, but would need to earn money to be able to buy anything else. |

55 shines.
I went to GameFAQs, and it's not a certain number of shines you have to get to finish the game, I have to get the first seven stars from each world, seven in total, and it's pretty lame that in each world, the seventh star is you chasing the shadow Mario around and spraying him with water. That said, I've "cleared" five of the seven worlds. |

I haven't played Super Mario Sunshine for a long time. Maybe I should try it sometime; I beat a few worlds on one save file and then started another just
to get to that fiery-village level early on to see if the sequence breaking led to anything interesting (it's possible to hit that pipe without any special
FLUDD power-ups).
SMS would be better if there were more of those pure platforming levels where Shadow Mario takes away your FLUDD. I remember losing lives there, which would be unusual anywhere else in the game. |

I beat SotN as Alucard. I completely skipped the area which has Galamoth in it, because I'm weak. I also beat the game as Richter, for the first time,
getting the "Belmont's Revenge" achievement. It took me just over 20 minutes to do that (I did not do much castle exploring at all) and whilst
his health sucks, I just kept using the hydro storm a lot. I wish Richter had a proper double jump as the down, up+jump technique is something I can never pull
off consistently.

The first time(s) I beat SotN with Richter, I didn't know about the Hydro Storm thing. That made me blessed. Once you know about it, it kind of ruins the
game with him since you can just run straight to the final boss. I guess some people would say it's a GOOD thing, since it opens up time trial
possibilities, but I had much more fun exploring the whole castle with Richter.

I'm five stars from the final level in Mario Sunshine, and I can't finish this game fast enough.
I fought a casino-themed Boo boss that took fucking forever to kill. First he had to become vulnerable, and that was by random chance - the slot had to land on the fruit, but usually landed on something else. Half the time I threw a pepper at him he just absorbed it instead of going crazy like he was supposed to. And the floor is rotating, and the camera is locked in position. The second to last star on the Hotel stage (aside from the asinine Shadow Mario chasing) was just running around and cleaning some goop off the ground. You have three minutes to do this, but I completed it in about one and a half. And FUCK IL PAINTISSIMO. I've raced him three times and beaten him on the first try each time, what's the point of him? To have an arrogant Koopa the Quick substitute? |

That hotel area was really bad, probably the worst time I've had playing a Mario title. I really think the problem with Sunshine is that they rushed it out
more than anything else.
I started the PSP remake of Star Ocean. The first time the game has been officially available here. Now, I'm really fond of Star Ocean 2, lots of great memories. And when they remade Star Ocean 1, they did so using the SO2 engine. So it's like this weird nostalgia trip, except I'm not that familiar with the game. Kind of the sensation of playing Perfect Dark and being reminded of Goldeneye, but even stronger. It looks like the engine has been enhanced. The game is really beautiful, especially the first town, and the large PSP screen and widescreen presentation really help. The voice acting is mostly that pretty cheesy sort, like from the PSX era, and the characters all scream out the names of their attacks every time they use them. But that's okay, too. This is like a trip back in time. Load times aren't bad, especially since the PSP is kind of notorious for that. The writing seems a lot better than the fan translation of the SNES version that's been out for a while. I hope they do as good a job when they remake SO2. There won't be any engine change this time, so hopefully they don't get lazy with it. |

Anybody home? Maybe everyone's out partying or whatever you crazy kids do on the weekend.
In Star Ocean, I've played past all the introductory stuff, and I'm on Roak in the past. I just met a new party member, but I haven't been playing long enough to remember his name. I think I might have played pretty far into the SNES version, and it's starting to come back to me. But so far, I like the remake better. |

I beat Mario Sunshine. If there was any doubt I was going to stop the game after beating it, it's been quashed.
Mario Sunshine actually found a way to cock up the floating platform levels. The last one I did, the fifth star for the volcanic village, wasn't really platforming, but rather having a bunch of islanders flinging you around. You talk to them, and then they hurl you over their shoulders in the direction you were talking to them in. Except the game was so finicky and tempermental about this, you might be looking at the next platform head-on, but if you weren't talking to them in EXACTLY the right direction they chuck you into the void. And the final boss was so insulting awful, when I beat it and realized that was it, I decided this game could fuck off. Did Crawl beat this game? I remember a post he made a while ago about how he tried to play Mario Sunshine again, but was already sick of it in a few minutes. EDIT: Found that post, but I don't think it answers the question of if he beat it or not.

Oh man, that Sunshine stage was just horrible, horrible torture. I'd like to think had if it been done in 2D space it could possibly have not been
so unendingly frustrating, but it'd probably lose the whole point of why it was difficult in the first place. It didn't help that I actually tried to
clear that stage's Red Coin challenge; in other stages all you need to do is go out of your way to pick them up under the time limit and it's as simple
as that. Now you've got to up your pixel-perfect precision on what angle to talk to the guys to fifteen million thousand, or else you miss your coin and
have no choice but to make Mario commit suicide to reclaim it. FUN TIIIIIMES
I've unlocked all the secret maps in Wario Land: The Shake Dimension, leaving only the treasures and achievements. I know getting all the achievements in a stage unlocks its music, but I've no clue what nabbing every treasure does. I'd appreciate it if it wasn't a superficial reward, but what are the chances of that in this day and age, eh? |

I finished off my SotN save file with Alucard and managed to get 200.6% of the map, which is the first time I've done that. I was put off even trying at
first because I thought it involved having to use glitches via the sword familiar, but I was wrong. I also wrote up the next Hokuto episode for RAH.
As for Richter, one bad habit I got into was trying to make him dash back Alucard style...which of course meant he'd hydro storm the place. |

Anybody home? Maybe everyone's out partying or whatever you crazy kids do on the weekend. Don't know about everyone else, but I spent all night trying to get spyware off the computer again. This type was so bad, the anti-spyware programs I have either couldn't remove it or it would freeze them. I had to download MalwareBytes'
Anti-Malware to get rid of it.

No, I didn't beat Mario Sunshine. I made it to that stage you're talking about, where you get thrown, and hated it so much I couldn't play any
more.
(The post that Codie linked wasn't the one where I talked about that in the past, but I couldn't find it, either. Maybe it was wiped out in the hacker attack) Sounds like at least I left off near the end, if I ever wanted to polish it off.

I'm glad I stopped playing Sunshine when I did. Or maybe I just blocked out the memories of that area.
In Star Ocean, I agreed to head to a city to retrieve a sword. In exchange, I got the entry pass into that city. We're still looking for a couple of party members we were separated from during the time travel jump. There's a really high text to gameplay ratio so far, so if your tolerance for JRPG storylines isn't that high, it's probably better to go right to SO2. I'm still pretty into it, though. I also started watching Real Ghostbusters again. I just finished the episode where Slimer gets turned into a ton of little Slimers and keeps multiplying. Also added Tau.
