Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None For several reasons... 1). I have a hard time bringing myself to read the old ones because I know it's going to be bad. 2). I get the thoughts from the old review jumbled with my current thoughts and I have a hard time figuring out how to reorganize it all. 3.) Many of my old reviews don't really have a thesis, so I have to come up with a thesis and then figure out what lines I can salvage that run with that thesis. I've fallen down, but I'll rise above this... rise above this doubt. www.flyingomelette.com

Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Ooh, man, yes that Heroes of the Lance review is pretty damn terrible. I seem to be rambling about random things. Whoever thinks that categorizing reviews makes them more organized should look at that. Also, I noticed that I said the sequel touted in the ending never got made. I recently found out that it actually did, but it was only released in Japan. I just tried a ROM of it for a few minutes, and it's not much like Heroes. The speed of the characters has been greatly increased and the play control is better, but the sprites and profile pictures actually look a whole lot worse. Also, you walk around an overworld and get into fights with enemies in a sidescrolling view a la, Zelda 2, but I didn't play long enough to figure much else out. Worst come to worst, you could "update" an old one by writing a new one from scratch, in which case they'd be equal.

Sure, a new review could be read as an adaptation of the old one with every sentence changed, but that's not how the reviewer's ideas pan out. There comes a point where your mindset changes from, "let's tweak the old review" to "let's start from a clean slate."

The only real advantage to the category format is that I could skip around the sections I didn't care about as much (like graphics or story), but your new style cuts out all the unnecessary crap and it all flows so evenly that I don't find myself wanting to skip around. Incidentally, I also watched your video of you beating HOTL and it was really amazing. I couldn't figure out how to get out of the first area of the game back when I played it and I think I see exactly why - you go through a round plate on the wall that I didn't realize was a door. I think I once said that the HotL review marked a forward step in quality for my reviewing. Geez, I must've been REALLY bad before that, then... I couldn't figure out how to get out of the first area of the game back when I played it and I think I see exactly why - you go through a round plate on the wall that I didn't realize was a door. Ha ha ha! I just told Crawl yesterday that I did the same exact thing when I first played that game. I didn't realize that was a door, either, and one day I just happened to notice the "W" on the compass light up as I passed it. Oh my God, they found Tom.
