The career mode has a section for each instrument. Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums, and Vocals (Microphone). Guitar and Bass Guitar are both played with the same guitar controller, but it's worth noting that previous Guitar Hero games did not have any single player content for Bass Guitar. I don't have the drums, but I'm going to look into getting them when I can find them for sale standalone. I can't sing, so I'd probably never want to try that aspect of the game for fear that someone might manage to hear me. It'd be embarrassing enough if only I can hear me.
When they released World Tour, they also released a new version of the guitar controller. It's totally optional because the game can still be played with 'last year's model", but there are some minor gameplay changes to take advantage of the new controller. From what I can see, it's nothing that matters much for gameplay, just a way of trying to justify the purchase of another guitar. I'm happy with what I've got.
You don't really have time to look at much besides the notes while you're playing, but the graphics are a fair bit improved. I'm noticing even on this game on a console most certainly not associated with high def, that some text is much more difficult to read than in previous GH games.
I believe there are something like 80+ songs in this game, and I've hard they did a lot of work to make downloadable tracks work well even on the Wii, which is not cut out for that sort of thing. I don't like the idea of buying content that I can't listen to outside of the game, though.
In House, I'm five or six episodes into season two.
