I think you're right. Both about them sleeping all day, and maybe about why Caramel gets wound up.

I just finished reading one of my peers' creative writing stories, about a four-year-old drowning her kitten while teaching it how to swim, and acting all
confused when the kitten stops moving. Does it make me a sissy that I started crying at the end of it, not because of any powerful writing, but because the
story was about a fucking four-year-old drowning her kitten while teaching it how to swim, and acting all confused when the kitten stops moving?

I wasn't feeling well this morning, so I was in bed, and one of our cats came and stayed with me for awhile. Awww.

Pepper and Caramel in the Shelter's newsletter!
According to the newsletter, Jack was adopted. |

"They get along quite well together now". That's a little bit of editorializing. They still fight. Geez, they were doing that tonight. I
wonder if Caramel LIKES it when Pepper gets so rough that she bites her. It seems like otherwise she'd learn her lesson. As much as I dislike seeing them
fight, it is kind of amazing to see Pepper move in on Caramel, under Caramel's bats, into biting distance. It's like watching a shorter person close
the distance on a taller one during karate sparring.
But that is a very cute little segment. And, yes, Pepper does seem grateful for a second chance at life (even if she might wish it was in a house she had to herself, without the Calico terror!) |

Pepper did something else weird today. She went into the bathroom and started crying. I went to check on her. She was just sitting in the litter box. She
wasn't throwing up or anything. When I came in, she stopped crying. Then she pooped, and walked out.
I wonder if she was worried that Caramel would harass her when she was going to the bathroom. (Caramel wasn't in the bathroom, but she was nearby) The only other thing I can think of is that maybe having to poop gave her a bit of a tummy ache. Otherwise I don't know. But they do harass each other. Caramel threw up a few days ago, and Pepper started hitting her. I had to take her away. Was she trying to take advantage of a weakness? And today, Pepper tore up some paper, then got on the sofa and started coughing. FO wondered if the paper was bothering her. Anyway, then Caramel came up and tried to hit Pepper. And FO had to swat her away. Again, trying to take advantage of a weakness? If so, maybe Caramel would go after Pepper when she's taking a crap. It also seems like Pepper still sometimes has nightmares that make her cry. I think maybe we should try to put her in bed with us (rather than relying on her to join us when she's ready) since that seems to help. Well, as long as the two kitties don't fight in bed. You know, I think they might have even been fighting in bed this morning when I was half asleep. |

I don't think it makes you a sissy, but is it a coincidence that they gave a cat lover a story like that to grade? She must be Lenny's daughter from Of Mice and Men. "They get along quite well together now". That's a little bit of editorializing. They still fight. But you can't tell it by that picture. They look so cute and happy together.

Caramel must have been lonely tonight. She was lap catting for a very long time.

Caramel still wants to play with Pepper, but she's a little more cautious now. It seems she has learned that Pepper can bite if provoked too much.
EDIT: It seems like Caramel is trying to get Pepper to run, so she can chase her, or be chased, without getting too close first. She did just get Pepper to chase her up the stairs. Pepper might be a bit active now. And she was playing with the catnip ball in the tunnel, so she might be a little buzzed, too.

I visited the Kitty shelter on the way home from the hair dresser! And man, Caramel knows it. She's been over here sniffing me very curiously for the past
few minutes.
They've adopted out quite a few cats. I've never seen so many empty cages there before. I talked to them about Hermes, the male longhair polydactyl. They said he would not be a good choice if you have other cats because he attacks them. While Caramel would probably like that, he could seriously hurt Pepper. He's huge. He's even bigger than Caramel. They had another longhair male that they recently got in, an orange tabby, who's even bigger than Hermes, but he's gentle as a lamb and loves attention. If situations were different, I might've come home with him. Oh man... and I thought Pepper's injury would've hurt her chances for adoption. They have a small black female that was found outside during the really cold weather and she got frostbite all over her. She lost the tops of her ears, her rear paw pads, and a lot of fur off her legs and rear end. She looks pathetic, but she's friendly and was letting me pet her. I also got to see the one that looks like a healthy version of Bubba up close (I posted a picture of that one a few posts above). She seemed pretty friendly, too. I didn't notice it before, but one of their cats is an oddeye - it's got one blue eye and one green eye. I've only seen cats like that a few times in pictures and they've all been white. The people at the shelter remembered Pepper and they said they really liked her. |

Last night, Pepper got on the bed, and snuggled into the blanket until she was covered. In other words, we didn't put this blanket on Pepper; she did it
herself!

Pepper and Caramel sparred for quite awhile yesterday while I was home. Usually what happens is that eventually Pepper starts hissing and growling, but this
time I figured I'd let it go on so long as no one was hissing or growling or obviously getting hurt. But not only did Pepper not hiss or growl, but she
actually started a lot of it, chasing after Caramel, and then when Caramel got on top of the castle, Pepper would stalk around it and leap up at her and
they'd grapple.
Caramel did pull a couple of tufts of fur out of Pepper, but otherwise, it seemed like they were having fun. |

Here's a video of Caramel begging for her dinner. Wow, is she tall! She's about up to FO's hips! Holy cow, that cat is huge! It's amazing it grew so big so fast.
My mother won't let me get a cat while I live here, but when I'm done school and I move out I'm going to visit some local shelters.

I saw a kitty prowling around an apartment complex on my way to work. It was black and white, like DJ. I'll bet it was sad to be in the rain :(

But not OUR apartment complex, right?
I'm actually hoping at this point that I don't see any more strays. If I ever did want to get another cat, it would actually be cheaper to adopt one. Caramel's first vet visit cost $140, her second one $170. If a stray was already spayed or neutered, we wouldn't have to worry about the $170, but for $140, you could adopt TWO cats for that price, and they're already spayed/neutered and up to speed on their vet visits. (And sponsored cats, like the one that looks like Bubba, are $30 cheaper to adopt than the others.) |

Not ours, no. But strays at other apartments need love, too

Are you telling me you're going to attempt to find it and bring it home?
Well, if you do, good luck. I'm going to my interview now and may not be back for several hours.
