My parents didn't think logically like that. I think that for years my mother must have been under the impression that I thought the incident was funny,
too, and that I completely forgave the dog for it. But one day she was talking about it and laughing over it, and I actually asked her why she didn't
replace the basket and she had no real answer. After that, she would always deny Niki ever did anything like that at all. It's just like how she used to
laugh and brag all the time about all the "fun" things that happened when they took my older brother to the beach when he was a kid, and one day I
finally asked, "Why don't you ever take US to the beach?" No reply and she never mentioned it again. (I think there were specific reasons they
got like that after my brother, though.)
Even after Niki died, they got a portrait made from one of her photographs and they hung it on the wall in the living room where it was nearly impossible to watch TV without seeing it. It was as ugly and mean-looking as she was in real-life. God, I hated that dog.

Almost all of the kitties that came into the shelter after Pepper have been adopted out already. Even one that came in on the same day as her has been adopted.
