Well, one of the cats tore a hole in it, and they were all (except Dufe who was closed up in my room) eating out of it. Simba chows down while Arlene waits. Arlene gets her turn. Arlene pawing into the hole. I didn't get pictures of Einstein and Sukie because they either quit when I finally found the camera, or got all excited when they heard me turn on the camera. For the sake of it, here's a picture of Sukie. That's all that's left of her tail from the dog attack. And Einstein.

I took some that show off her color patterns. Here are some more of Caramel, too: Caramel the Contortionist Caramel in the cubes. Speaking of which, I went upstairs earlier and found the cubes situated like this. That dark spot inside the darker blue cube is Caramel. I had to get a picture of her inside of them like that. She has this look on her face like, "I didn't do this." Caramel has no problems being around Pepper anymore. Pepper sometimes still hisses at Caramel if she pounces at her. That's where she has her most distinctive tabby pattern, and it looks like a cinnamon bun (the dark parts looking like the cinnamon, the white parts looking like the frosting) Ow! I might have to give up the nose loving thing with Caramel. She was lying on the bed and I was lying next to her, and she was letting me pet her, and when I pet her, she was motorboating all contentedly, and I was thinking, "This is probably the most we've been able to be like this since Pepper moved in." And I went to bump noses, and she gouged my face with her claws. That's gotta be the worst either FO or I has gotten from her.

We saw another one on our way in today. It wasn't in the parking lot, though. It was in the "woods" by the parking lot. And it wouldn't let us get close. So, it might be completely feral. As I type this, though, FO went back out for another look...

Suffice to say, we did not take it in (yet). We took down the Christmas tree, but since Caramel loved it, we got another piece of cat furniture. We tried to get one that Pepper could reach. We even measured the stuff she could reach at home, and took a tape measure to the pet store. Anyway, be prepared for another video.... Get pumped, because it's Pepper vs Caramel!!!!

Among her many moves, she jumped from the staircase to the new tower, to her chair, to her old tower, climbed all around it, and went through one of the ledge holes upside down. She probably works herself up when she gets excited. The new furniture probably excited her a little, and Pepper even played a bit on her own (batting the ball in the tunnel), which also might have got her hopes up. FO did a Caramel impression, something like, "Why don't you play with me? I'm much better than just a little ball!"

Suffice to say, we did not take it in (yet). I heard her meowing again when I was playing upstairs with Caramel. I knew it wasn't Caramel because I was with her and she didn't meow. And I knew it wasn't Pepper because Pepper has a very distinct meow and it wasn't hers (and she was asleep anyway). So I went back outside and looked around. I heard it meow once as I stepped out, but then it got quiet. I walked back around to where we saw her and I didn't hear anything. Then as I turned around to go back, I saw her run really fast across the street into the apartment complex area. I followed her, but she was gone by the time I rounded the corner. But I heard her meow again, so I walked back over to the thicket and I spotted her sitting on a tree stump. She leaped down when she saw me and retreated back farther into the thicket. She was still meowing and I "meowed" back at her and called to her, but she just meowed back and wouldn't get closer. I started walking into the thicket, but that made her run off. So, yeah, you might not be able to make her into a pet, but I'm worried that the reason she's meowing like that is because she's hungry, so I put bowls of food and water out for her. She was at a distance from us, but it looked like she was a longhaired grey tabby - she has a lynx face like Bubba. Edit - I forgot to mention that when we first came home from shopping and got out of the car, I heard a cat meowing. We were on the opposite side of the parking lot from the apartments and I thought, "Holy crap! I can hear our cats meowing all the way out here! Boy, they really are going to get us in trouble..." But then I realized it was coming from the thicket. I also think Caramel might have spotted her outside the window a few days ago. Caramel was racing from one window to the other downstairs, then she'd race upstairs and run between the windows in the large and small bedrooms, then run downstairs and repeat the process. I looked, but didn't see anything. I assumed she saw a squirrel, but usually even squirrels don't get her THAT excited... Both Pepper and Caramel investigated it and pawed at it. Can it really be that fascinating? I might go searching for the stray again tomorrow when it's daylight. When I was walking through the thicket earlier, I noticed an overturned sofa that someone dumped back there. I wonder if that's where it will sleep tonight. I also scared a bunny out of hiding. Something I forgot to mention about the stray. Even though she wouldn't come near us, she was acting kind of "cute". She kept getting down onto the ground and rolling over onto her back, then getting back up. I wonder if she was doing that in an attempt to "communicate" with us, or if she just had an itch and liked the way the brambles in the thicket felt against her back. Not only did she claw my face earlier, but she was on the computer chair -- OUR computer chair, not hers -- and FO needed to use it. We tried to move her, but she kept nipping. Finally, I tilted the chair until she had no choice but to jump off. We let Caramel get away with an awful lot, but we might need to have SOME discipline. It didn't occur to me to try scruffing her on the chair until I got her off the other way, though. What my mother used to do to discipline Itty Bitty was to shoot her with a water gun. I took a shower a bit ago, and instead of coming downstairs, I decided to play Dragon Warrior 2 on my poof chair for a while. Pepper came in the room and starting crawling around the poof chair and eventually settled on me, and cuddled for quite a while. Actually, she would have cuddled for even longer; I had to have FO take her away because my legs were getting sore and I needed to use the rest room.

She's getting better at stuff like that. We wonder if maybe her legs were atrophied from being in that cage for so long. (Though, sadly, there are other cats there who have been in cages much longer than Pepper) They both slept with us last night. In fact, they slept pretty close: Pepper was nuzzled into the top of my legs, and Caramel was against and partially on my lower legs. That made my legs kind of sore there, so I had to get up and stretch. When I came back, I lay on my back instead of my side, and Pepper got on my chest and Caramel got between my legs. She jumped up on the sofa with me and was being very affectionate, letting me pet her, doing that content face she does when she enjoys being pet, rubbing up against me .. and then she bit my arm. I said something like, "Hey! Don't do that!" Then she was being really loving again, letting me pet her ... and she bit my arm again! I said, "Are you insane? Stop!" Maybe I shouldn't have gotten upset, because some people say that is a way for a cat to show affection. (Even Wikipedia says something about that) But it's very confusing to this big unfurry cat.
