I got glossy 4x6 print of the picture of Caramel on the bed with me from the first page of this thread (from the first day she came into our apartment!) and
have it frame on my desk at work.

I just remembered, after Pepper came into bed with us, she was nibbling on my feet through my socks. I'll bet it's something similar as with Caramel,
that she doesn't realize my feet in socks are a part of me. Her nibbles were more gentle than Caramel's, though.
I have a feeling they were both running around upstairs together last night. They were kind of loud. I don't think it was just Caramel, because Caramel never did that on her own before, and she's probably not that loud on her own, except maybe when she's chasing Mr. Red Dot. |

Pepper had some spunk tonight! Caramel has been good and gentle, running up to Pepper but always holding back. On the other hand, I guess Pepper is justified
in getting annoyed at even that. It sounds like Pepper spit on Caramel once (I don't know if a goober came out of
if it just sounded like it) and another time made a sound like a ! in the Bushmen language. She also pawed at her once, but I don't remember the
circumstances.
I don't want to misrepresent things, though. I think the majority of the time, they get along, or at least leave each other alone. Oh, and Caramel got me once when I was trying to play with her in the tower. I was doing the same sort of thing I was doing in that earlier video. She swatted at the toys, but once swatted at my hand (when it wasn't holding a toy) with her claws out. She drew some blood, but the scratches were very superficial.

Caramel was so cute coming downstairs last night. She did her "mew, mew, mew, mew, mew" thing as she came down the steps, but she did it in sad tone
of voice. She likes going upstairs by herself, but when she wakes up she might feel lonely. I think she also gets mad at me when I don't go to bed when
she thinks I should. There were times when she was sitting in her chair looking at me, looking like she was getting impatient.
We're still putting aloe on Pepper's back. The middle of her wound is a long, narrow stripe, and it has two bigger circular wounds at either end. Actually, towards her head, it's like two bigger circular wounds. The bigger wound towards her tail seems like it's mostly healed, and I had trouble finding it for the aloe. The long wound is sometimes hard to see (it shows up in the Youtube videos, but maybe the aloe is making it more visible) -- it's thin enough that her hair mostly covers it. However, right now, I think it might be the worst looking part of her wound. It still has a raw look to it, and it's raised up in a ridge. The larger part near her head was healing up, but then I think she was scratching at it and it looked raw again. Now I think it's back to the dandruff look. Her fur does feel a lot better than it did at the shelter. There, for some reason, her hair felt sticky and almost gross. Now, most of it (obviously the aloe will have an effect) feels nice and soft. She has a really cute fur pattern on her chest. FO said that her body looked a little like an overgrown rat when we first brought her home last week, but she's starting to look more like a cat. Caramel, on the other hand... This might seem odd to say about a cat, but she's actually muscular. You might not notice it a lot of the time because she's covered in so much fuzz, but she does this one particular stretch (after she's been lying down for a while) where she stretches out far horizontally and sometimes kicks out one of her back legs for an extra stretch, and the stretch apparently also works as a flex, and you can see then that she has muscle definition. I guess that comes from the way she plays. She likes to play to complete exhaustion, take a cat nap, and play to complete exhaustion again. Well, except she probably doesn't like the cat nap step and would prefer to skip it if she didn't exhaust herself. She'll sit on her chair, or one of the levels in her tower, and have her eyes and head get heavy as she fights sleep. |

Poor little Pepper. She didn't join us at all in bed last night. She just slept on her castle. (It's so cute how she uses that cat nap sack as a
pillow!) But at least she didn't cry, either.
I'm starting to notice her expressions more. It could be a little bit due to me, and a bit due to her. I think when she first was here, she did tend to just have a blank, wide-eyed expression most of the time. When she relaxes, it takes away a bit of her tiger look and makes her look like a kitty again. |

I think Caramel actually likes Pepper now. She wants Pepper to play with her, and I think having a second cat is the reason she's been almost
twice as active as usual lately. She's excited about it. When they touch noses, it's usually Caramel who initiates it. But Pepper still isn't ready
to play the way Caramel wants and sometimes hisses at her to make her back off. But basically, that's pretty much what a normal old cat/young cat
relationship is like.
I decided to put Pepper's cat bed on the desk upstairs that's near the window. I'm trying to motivate Pepper to go up and down the stairs a few times a day for exercise, and since she already has the castle to sleep on downstairs, I figured that if she wants to use the catbed, she'll have to hustle her little butt up there. We took her upstairs and put her in it so she'd know it's there, and she seems satisfied to lie in it for now and look out the window. She went upstairs and got into it all on her own last night. She was also coming down the stairs when I came home from work yesterday, so I'm glad she's finally going up and down more. It'll give her more exercise. Oh, and Andy Rooney pronounces it "care-a-mel", so I'm not entirely wrong. |

about.com actually has two pronunciations for "caramel", but they're in that moon-man hieroglyphics. Presumably they translate to
"care-(uh)-mel" and "car-mul". But there's only one audio pronunciation, and it combines the two into "car-uh-mel", which
I've NEVER heard.

Caramel does this thing now where she puts her ears down low and twists them back, so she looks like an airplane. I call it "earplane". She's
playing on her tower and earplaning with a wild look on her face.

We had a little scare as Caramel ran outside when I came home, but she immediately ran back in.

We're starting to find little Caramel claw shavings!
(They had a bunch of them at the shelter) |

Dufie has this thing where she'll bite into a blanket and knead it and purr like a chainsaw, and she'll go on like this for a few minutes. And that large bump you can see about halfway across her back is one of those mattes of hair she won't let us cut out.
The camera didn't focus on this one for some reason, but it's the only one I got of her lifting the blanket. |

I just gave Pepper and Caramel their dinners. They're so cute. They hang around me the whole time I'm spooning it out and make a little chorus. I
don't know why they beg; what do they think, I'd spoon out their food into bowls and then put the bowls away?
They're really, surprisingly easy to feed with their own bowls. I put down Caramel's bowl and she starts eating, and Pepper kind of moved in for it, but then I led her away with her own bowl, and then they eat peacefully side by side. |

Caramel really loved hers! It was the Friskies Pacific Salmon patte. She only likes the patte, not the "chunks". (In fact, even Pepper left a lot
of last night's chunk meal.) To make it easier to eat, I mash it up with a spoon, and I do think she prefers it that way. She ate just about the whole
thing, though she doesn't lick the bowl clean like Pepper might (Pepper is still working on her own).
I only gave them each a quarter of the can. |

Dufie does look like a wild animal. She's like a larger, greyer version of Bubba.
One thing I don't think can be seen in a photograph is just how fuzzy Pepper's hindquarters are. Her legs look really chubby, but it's mostly all fuzz. She even looked like that when I first saw her when she was starving. |

I think one of Caramel's favorite hobbies is posing in her chair.

Both kitties were with us in bed for a while last night! Pepper was crying upstairs, so FO went up, and had Pepper follow her down, then follow her to the bed
staircase. She didn't carry Pepper, though; she let her do it all herself so she'd learn to do it all on her own eventually.

I just checked on Pepper and she's on her little bed in the big room looking out the window.
She has mannerisms that make her seem so prim and proper. When she stretches, she daintily puts one paw a little bit in front of her and dips a bit, almost like she's doing a curtsey as much as a stretch. |

I was eating a couple of turkey dogs while sitting on the futon and Pepper came up to me and put her front paws up on the futon. I gave her a piece of the
turkey dog and she loved it! Her face lit up and she put her paws up for more.

I woke up in the middle of the night, and little Pepper was with us. She wasn't really snuggled in tight, which might have been why she went back upstairs
after that (she might think her little upstairs bed is more comfortable) (Caramel, on the other hand, first slept between my legs when I was on my back, and
when I rolled over to be more comfortable -- this was when Caramel and FO got up briefly -- she snuggled into the bend behind my knees).
I just saw Pepper go into the castle! That's the first time I saw her do it. She did it kind of loudly, which makes me think she was playing some sort of game with it. |
