More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None The stray cat that's been hanging around our apartment complex is in the room with me right now, walking all around my legs, purring up a storm, and rubbing against me. Boy, is it skinny...I'm used to seeing cats that are really fat. I guess what Crawl and I should do is go get a litterbox, some cat litter, and a cat carrier, then figure out a vet to take it to. I think I've got myself a pet... Still can't quite tell if it's male or female, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's less than a year old. More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Crawl and I needed to go out and get lunch, so I put it back outside for the moment. It leaped from the ground to the fence, walked across to a neighbor's side, and leaped down. While we were out, I bought a litterbox, cat litter, a cat carrier, and a pooper scooper. We came home and sure enough it was waiting on our doorstep again. I no sooner opened the door and it ran right in. So, I'll guess we'll keep it in the house now and I'll make a vet appointment on Monday. It is purring constantly. It ran upstairs. Maybe I'll go up and see what it's doing... There was an orange tabby hanging around last winter, but I was never able to get very close to it. Some of her fur is really dirty. Somebody dumped her off on our street in the middle of the night and she came up to us and acted all friendly, so we took her in and about a week later her attitude started showing. She's gotten over it mostly, but my left hand has several scars from where she bit and gouged me. It's time for revenge...

I tried getting her to play with it, but she didn't seem interested. When I waved the sock in front of her face, she went under it, basically petting herself with it.

I'm hoping that it will clear up soon with her being kept in the house and eating a regular diet of cat food instead of whatever scraps she could find outside. If not, hopefully the vet can do something about it. I read online that you should pull at the scruff of their neck to see if they're dehydrated, which is a big danger of diarrhea, but it doesn't seem like she is. She has got quite a purring motor, too. I don't even see her right now, but I can hear her little engine going. I think she slept on the computer chair last night. That's where I found her when I woke up. I've fallen down, but I'll rise above this... rise above this doubt. www.flyingomelette.com

Unless cats are more clever than I'm giving her credit for, it just seems like she "knows" certain things. She knew to user her litterbox. Also, when we were putting our coats on to go out, she walked over and waited by the door. I don't think she wanted to be let out so much as she wanted to go with us. I found her waiting by the door when we came back. She occasionally walks over and peeks out the large sliding windows, but she otherwise shows no interest in going back outside. Right now the windows on the upper floor are all covered over because they just repainted the outside of the apartments yesterday, but once they take the covers off, I'll have to arrange something so that she can leap up to the windows and look out. I'd rather keep her indoors. When she was outside, she'd often hide under the cars on the parking lot, and I'm afraid someone might run over her if they weren't aware that she's there. We also live right off a very busy road that I sometimes see dead animals on. I've fallen down, but I'll rise above this... rise above this doubt. www.flyingomelette.com

According to Wikipedia, it's true: Almost all calico's are female. The color pattern comes from some sort of conflict between genes for color on the two X chromosomes, and since males only have 1 X chromosome, there's no conflict (but a male calico can happen rarely under unusual circumstances) We thought this cat was female anyway.

When they go into heat, it's obnoxious as all hell, and they do pee on things during that time. Both of my cats who weren't spayed also got mammary cancer. But male cats sometimes spray even after they've been neutered. I knew someone who had two male cats and they had to keep plastic alongside their couch because they would spray it. Even if they've never used one before, if you take it in and guide its paw through a scratch or two, it will use it (unless there's some behavioral problem--my old labmate had a cat that would seemingly intemtionally pee on the floor. More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I think what made me the most suspicious that she'd been indoors before was that it seemed like she knew when we put our coats on that it meant we were going outside. She likes sitting in the computer chair so much that I decided to bring the old chair that we don't use down from upstairs. I moved her over to it and she curled right up into it. (Actually, that one's seat is in better shape because we haven't used it as much - it's not very stable and tends to fall over when you lean back in it, but for a cat it's okay.)
