I'm enjoying the experience so far, but the dialogue can be a bit of a headache depending on who you're talking to.

In DQ4, I got Ragnar to level 4 or 5, found the flying shoe things, and got Healie to join up. I was momentarily stuck because I should have already realized
who the jailed man was, but had forgotten. I eventually found someone in town who clued me in on what to do next. I haven't played the NES version in a
very long time, so I don't remember the difficulty, but I have to imagine that it's much, much easier than it was originally.

WhereaBOOT? I think someone learned to translate to English by watching South Park.

Was it in the FF5 remake where Square first started feeling the need to add over the top accents to everything?
Anyway, there are places in the game so far where people speak in more typical fashion, but here's the rest of that nightmare conversation. It's not spaced right because the video is of someone messing around with a Japanese version or prototype or something in an emulator but the text is the way I remember it. |

That's a problem Rob Powers mentioned in his fanfiction cliches article - Transformers Fanfictions in which people try so hard to get Ironhide's
southern drawl accent (to name one example) as accurate to the show as possible that his dialogue becomes unreadable.
I hate to toot my own horn (okay, maybe I really don't), but when I decided to write Honen with an accent, I only change enough words to give you an idea of how he speaks. Same with Aurora. That's all that's really necessary because chances are, people have heard an accent like that before and will easily hear the rest in that same accent without it being specifically spelled out. (That's probably why when someone makes one "teh" in their post, the tone of the whole rest of the post ends up sounding retarded to me.) |

and will easily hear the rest in that same accentNever really thought about it before, but I think that's absolutely right. Unrelated but I fogot to mention it earlier. One thing that is nifty in DQ4 is that you have this general world map that fills in as you explore, but then if you press a button, you get this really nice hand drawn style map of the immediate vicinity. I've noticed that you can rotate the camera in towns but that you might not be able to in any of the dungeons. Enemy sprites are nicely animated. The simplest enemies like slimes don't do very much, but there's always some movement going on, and I've seen a couple things that have impressed me already. The way one of the tree stump enemies attacks, for example. I saw a boss battle on Youtube (maybe the final boss or an optional one) that was fantastic looking, even if it was a bit of a Frieza ripoff. |

It probably seems similar because of Akira Toriyama reusing similar character designs.

Here it is. Watching it again, it's mostly the transformation sequences that have the good animation, but I still like it.

I think that's Necrosaro. Someone at NESforums has an animated avatar of the NES version.

For some reason, I guessed you were talking about Necrosaro before I looked at the video. Maybe it's because he's the only transforming boss I could
remember from that game. I think what makes him look like Frieza in that version is the color. He was green in one form and gold in another on the NES version.

Flying Omelette wrote:But honestly, though...The whole entire movie is just blatantly nonsensical. What about that impossibly elaborate dance number they have in that small restaurant at the beginning? What about the part where they topple over this small water tower, and somehow enough water comes out of it to flood the entire mines and blast a hole out of the wall at the end? (Remember that it had to travel across those same huge gaping caverns with the molten lava at the bottom that the carts did.) What about the dinner party where people were eating giant bugs, live snakes, eyeballs in soup, and chilled monkey brains? What about how the raft falls out of the airplane and there's clearly nobody in it? It tumbles and turns several times, and magically lands on the ground on the right side without dumping anybody from it. What about how Willie was completely covered in bugs one moment (with even a giant centipede crawling under her hair) and as soon as the door opens, there's nothing on her at all? I guess maybe, a fanboyish explanation is that she was just imagining all of that. |

I was going to say something about "How did the water tower hold that much water?", but I wasn't sure if it was possible since I
wasn't sure where the tower was in relation to Indy and Friends.
And why was that rock cliff turning to mud? This might be what FO was talking about with the ridiculous dance number, but who was watching it anyway? Willie comes out of the dragon's head and sings in Chinese and occasionally says "Anything goes," then she goes back in and the big dance number takes place, when the audience is on the OUTSIDE of the dragon head! I was looking at the back of the case (I own the DVD set that came out a few years ago) and it says something about this being Indy's darkest adventure. You have got to be kidding me. I was laughing hysterically at this. There's even some "serious" they ended making jokes in. I forget the exact setup, but I think somebody was going to come down on Indy with a hammer or rock, something startles him, he throws it into the air, and then it cuts to these three guys standing in a row and whatever the object was comes down on the center guy with a comical "bonk". ![]() It's time for revenge...

Ragnar is level 8 and I just bought the lance, which is the most powerful weapon available here. I'm now saving up for the best armor, fighting at the top
floor of the tower so I can jump right off when I want to go back to town. I decided to cut out as much of the mid-range equipment as possible, saving up to
only buy the best. I'm not sure what's really best in the long run, though, because some of that mid-range weaponry could have made battles go a lot
faster.
All the DQ games are pretty much one big level and gold grind but it can be kind of relaxing, too. |

There's even some "serious" they ended making jokes inThis is why I shouldn't make posts before I've had breakfast. What I meant to say was "There's even some "serious" moments they ended up making jokes in" Also, I started Clive Barker's Jericho on the 360, and I can't believe how hilariously bad it is. There was one spot I kept getting game overs in because I was the only party member with enough sense to stay the hell away from the exploding zombies (or any enemy for that matter - why do you people keep getting in their faces when you have GUNS???), except my teammates were constantly blocking me from retreating. I got to the level after some gargoyle kills your guy and you get to take possession of your teammates. Yeah, I said I was going to let this game rot on the shelf, but I found the 360 version cheap in a lot with Alone in the Dark (which I can't get to run on my 360) and at least the 360 version runs smoothly and the QTE buttons are colored like the 360 face buttons. ![]() It's time for revenge...

I beat Ragnar's chapter. I was well prepared, and was lucky enough to get a critical hit in, but I can't believe how easy that boss was. I was never at
the point where healing even crossed my mind. I don't remember if it was there on the NES version or not, but there was also a place within the tower where
you could heal up. I was a little annoyed that after saving all the money for that nice lance, I just find an awesome sword in the tower.
After you go back to the castle and tell the king you're going to seek out the young hero, he gives you a pretty massive gift of experience points. Enough to go from level 10 to level 15. The question of how someone can just "give" you experience aside, that's the kind of gift you might think about giving to Ragnar BEFORE he goes off to rescue the kidnapped children. Since it might, you know, help. Chapter 2 features Russian-like accents. Joy. At least they're easier to read. |

Okay, I finally got Alone in the Dark to boot and beat the first level. Most of the time it'd give me a message saying "To play this disc, please
insert it into an Xbox 360 console." Uh, yes?
I'm not intending to play these games, I've just got a backlog of eBay auctions to leave feedback for. ![]() It's time for revenge... |

I've been working on Hotel Dusk a little bit today. Pretty interesting and I really have no idea where it's going right now. On the downside, some of
the conversations are a little long, and light on interesting content, but I'm definitely glad I picked it up. As you progress the story, it gets to be
later in the day. I've played up to 5:20 or 5:30 so far.

I reached Chapter 3 / 6:00PM in Hotel Dusk. I've noticed a possibly disturbing trend which I now remember reading in reviews, where there's a
possibility for sudden Game Overs. Ask someone the wrong question, make too much noise when you're investigating something, BOOM- Game Over. Hope you saved
recently.
