I'm exploring Area 4 in Soul Blazer. I'm on the second or third floor of the icy cave. I've got the Lucky Sword and the Magic Armor. At first I
thought maybe the game was really ending soon because I got the last sword. Then I noticed that I'm an idiot and there's room for four more swords. The
Mountain of Souls is one of the most interesting town + dungeon combinations, although maybe the music isn't as good as some of the other parts of the
game.

I started Condemned 2, and the first level kind of sucked.
You start in a cage match against a bunch of bums while your bum friend roots you on. Then a zombie guy hits you in the face with a brick, and when you awaken you walk through a gate and run into your buddy from the first game Malcom Vanhorn, and he's crying some black stuff. Then the whole level is trying to catch up to him. Occasionally you find a TV you can tune in to get some tips from the Jigsaw Killer or whatever his name was. Then you enter a section of the city covered in what looks like tar, and some of the bums are covered in it, and some monsters made of the stuff pull themselves from it and attack. I guess Vigo decided pink didn't suit him. I ran around for about five minutes trying to find the ladder to proceed. You enter a hospital and take out a few bums. Then you leave the hospital walk through some ladders and crap, and find Vanhorn on the other side of a window banging on it, and a monster jumps up and grabs him, smashing the window. You climb into an area of the hospital filled with the tar stuff, and it's moving. There's some sacks on the ceiling which hatch a zombie that grabs you when you walk under it, so to destroy them you walk over to a pile of bricks, pick one up, walk within range of a sack, throw the brick at it, walk back to the pile of bricks, walk near another sack, throw the brick at it, walk back to the pile of bricks, etc. etc., and half the time I ended up throwing the brick at what was left of one I'd already taken out. Then you navigate some tunnels lined with the stuff, which is confusing to navigate because it's so dark and samey all over. At the end you find Vanhorn's corpse plastered to a wall with the tar stuff... ...and then it's revealed THE WHOLE FUCKING LEVEL WAS A DREAM. A dream that took place between the zombie guy hitting you in the face with the brick, and raising it. |

I beat Raiders of the Lost Ark a long time ago. It's actually really, really easy once you know all the steps - but impossible if you don't. I
don't think I would have figured it out without a walkthrough. I did somehow figure out E.T. without one, too, but the manual for that game is more
explicit in telling you what to do.

been afraid to get into it. It doesn't seem like I'm missing much...

I am not impressed by Condemned 2.
I finished the second level, a trek through a run-down hotel that ended in Vanhorn's mutilated corpse. This was extremely confusing to navigate because all the rooms you had to go through looked the same. The controls feel sticky. It's like the floor an invisible grid on it, and when you release the analog stick, Ethan wants to move into one of the grid squares. And sometime's I've been drifting off to the side pressing straight, and I get jammed on corners a lot. It also isn't nearly as spooky as Condemned 1 was. In fact I've laughed more than I've jumped, like when I walked in on a zombie using the toilet and shot it in the head, or when I threw a guy in a dumpster and the lid came down on his head, almost cartoon like. Also, the second level was full of zombies in their underpants that ran around giggling like little school girls.

I finished the Truth Tower in Lufia 2. Yeah, I kind of guessed who Iris really was, even though it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but what in this game
does?

When Crawl and I make posts referencing things, I think that we assume our audience is intelligent enough to know why we are. So, if Crawl says something about how The Godfather does this, this, and that. He's not just "making posts about The Godfather". He's using it to illustrate a point. Likewise, if I make a post and I reference Rob Powers's Transformers Fanfic Cliches article, I imagine people like Penguin and Viper think, "That's just another article about Transformers!", but a normal person can read that article and easily see that he's not just talking "about Transformers". Many of his guidelines are basic common sense and rules of good writing, and a lot of those cliches are prolific in more than just Transformers fanfiction - some are even problems I've seen in "professional" writing. He also uses non-Transformers examples as proof for his arguments. But when game reviewers have no universal standards and just pick any random reason whatsoever to like or dislike a game, this is what happens. They don't know how to apply a basic rule of what makes something good or bad to anything. An article like that is lost on them because to them it's "just Transformers - it doesn't apply to my Sailor Moon fanfic." |

In Soul Blazer, I've made it to Dr. Leo's lab. This guy had quite a basement for such a simple house.
The boss of the Mountain of Souls was really easy with only minimal strategy. First try. I found one of the things you need to get the Phoenix spell. |

I'm now on the second model town. I beat the first one without having bothered to get the ability to see invisible enemies. I just spammed magic when there
seemed to be one around.
I beat the boss of the area. It was almost shockingly easy. Is the next boss going to be a helpless grandmother or something? So now I'm at the castle. I'm not sure this is a place that needs to be restored.

I played another hour of Final Fantasy 12. I killed the Rogue Tomato! The opening area had wolves, which were the main enemies I fought. I gained a couple
of levels from them. It also had Tyrannosaurus. FO said that in any movie with a Tyrannosaurus, it inevitably ends up chasing people. Why not just have
Tyrannosaurus walking along, minding its own business, like any other animal. Well, this might be the first game that does that. I don't think they
automatically attack here.

Lufia 2 sucks.
At the start of the volcano dungeon, I enter a room with a sign that says "Up Elevator, Required Weight 1 ton". I thought that meant I had to round up the three monsters in the room on that platform, so I spent about ten to twenty minutes of tedious Hook throwing and enemy stunning trying to get them there. As it turns out I was supposed to go up a floor and drop a lizard thing through the hole. Then I piddled through the dungeon with little trouble, except for the ice-in-magma puzzle which took me a few minutes to finally click. Then, when I got to the dragon, he put my entire party to sleep and slaughtered me, setting me back about half an hour. That's when I decided I had it for the night. |

I cleared Krem Land in DKC2. King Zing Sting is not very challenging, at least not after all the time I've spent with this game over the years, but
it's such a huge step up from most of the bosses from the first game. I reached the save point in Gloomy Gulch and stopped for today.

I spent all night trying to get Bubsy for the Atari Jaguar to work, but it doesn't want to, even after repeated cleanings. I can't even get the
cartridge shell open to clean the inside of it. There are two tabs on the sides that open up the lower casing if you push them in, but then the upper casing
doesn't want to come apart and I can't find any other tabs.

I got it to work on Project Tempest. (I can't get Virtual Jaguar to work at all.) The only problem is that I don't really have any idea how well the
sound is emulated, and it sounds a "staticky", so I probably wouldn't comment on it if I beat the game this way and decided to review it
afterwards.

I'm a ways into Magridd Castle. I just got the Spirit Sword and Elemental Armor. The armor seems like a weird kind of a freebie because the following floor
looks like it was designed all around the spikes being an obstacle but you don't even have to worry about them. Maybe if the armor were easy to miss, but
you're specifically told who has it and that you should get it before continuing. I found out that Dr. Leo is being held in the "left tower".
I think that I might have to go and play the whole trilogy at this point. It's a real shame that Terranigma wasn't released and is so hard to import due to the PAL issue, but it might just be one of those times you have to settle for emulation. |

I enjoyed Terranigma alot. Being a late SNES game, 1996, the graphics impressed me. Almost like an early PS1 game.
