I finished my replay of Donkey Kong Country. Boss Dumb Drum has to be the most pointless boss in gaming history. Between the weak enemies it pours on you, and the predictable way it tries to smash you, it's like it (and Rare) wasn't even trying.
My family got DKC when I was four years old. Back then I was a "gaming coward" and would only play levels I knew I could beat (and whenever I was about to lose a life I would Start+Select immediately). I was scared of Mario 3 and didn't get past world 8 of Mario 1, but I would play hours of SMW, Mario 2 and DKC. Even on those games I stuck to the earliest levels until I got more confident about my gaming skills. One thing I remember, though, is that I would play Boss Dumb Drum repeatedly, and I never lost.
It's literally a boss level a four-year-old couldn't lose to!
