Interesting. I just now realized that U2's "Desire" only rhymes that word with "fire" in the first stanza. The other times it's rhymed with "beside her" and "higher". They also rhymed it with "wires" in "Trip Through Your Wires".

Another thing that's interesting is that I think "You set my desire" and "I trip through your wires" are the only rhyming lines in that song.

I dunno. I think by now almost all rhymes have got to be cliches.

The fire and desire rhyme reminds me of when I predicted what Backstreet Boys were going to say in "My Way"(or whatever it's title is).

I actually predicted "fire and desire" and "rhyming a word with itself" just by looking at the topic title. In my music theory class we listened to a song from the Renaissance that used the fire/desire rhyme. Ugh! That whole metaphor needs to be retired.

"Girl" and "world". I heard two songs in a row this morning that rhymed "girl" and "world". I also heard two different songs that had the line "I'm my own worst enemy", although that's not a rhyme.

"There's a worse room than this?! How?! Is it on fire?"

Let me tell you something about"rhyming a word with itself". I am SICK of it. It's the worst trend in Hip hop right now. The worst culprit? Kanye West. And I LIKE Kanye's music. But my teeth are about to be ground to the roots cause of his rhyming a word with the same word crap. That's not a rhyme you moron! I't's the same damn word!
