I don't know if that's in response to Troy's post in the other topic, but he didn't actually say he hated anime. He just doesn't like hentai. I'm pretty sure he's said he's liked other anime in the past.

In my case, it's just a medium like anything else. There is some good, some great, and a lot of bad.

I was under the impression that a lot of people here liked at least some anime. They just don't have such an obsessive love for it that they'll enjoy any anime movie no matter it's flaws.

Also, there's a difference between saying "I hate all anime" and "I just don't see where all anime is superior to all other forms of animation". Cartoon Planet (aka the "other" show with Space Ghost) was one of the funniest cartoons I remember seeing in the past 10 years, but I'm not going to pretend it was animated as well as The Lion King.

Yeah, I like some animé, but I don't believe it's a superior art form brought to earth by the Olympic deities or something. I know there are gaming message boards and hangouts whose members feel that way......and because of this, it's become sort of an expectation for gamers to also be fervent fans of animé. You're probably jumping from that expectation when you ask us why we "hate" animé. We don't. We're just sober about it.

Gee, I kind of forgot my connecting thought sentence there. What I basically meant is to say is that it's also possible to like something despite being aware of its flaws.

I don't hate anime myself. Some of it, like the others have already said, is great and others are terrible. ex. Cowboy Bebop in my opinion is awesome and Shuffle! Memories was indescribably bad. Of course somebody will probably disagree, really it is just a matter of personal tastes.

cowboy bebop is like jerry bruckhiemer(sp?) productions, entertaining enough but not exactly a work of art. some people seem to think it's as good as futurama.

I'm named after an anime character, but my experience with it in general is limited to a few movies we rented and a few shows that have been aired on network TV and cartoon network. I like some of what I've seen, but I'm not a diehard fan who knows a lot about obscure stuff.

I do think it's bad that anime has such a clearly defined visual style (it is completely ridiculous how similar some animes look to each other, and how generic the character design is), and that kids today grow up trying to imitate it. What happened to originality and self expression?

I don't hate it but I don't watch it as much as I used to. Too expensive to keep buying, rental places have limited selections, and most of what's shown on TV is either crap or stuff I've already seen.

Why does every hobby have to fuel the consumer culture?

If you want to be a videogamer, you always have to buy new systems, rare games, import games, the latest games...

I even get annoyed when I see people going on and on about how much music gear they have. I mean, isn't the point of playing music so that you can finally create something yourself? And you're just using it as an opportunity to buy more crap!

I wouldn't be surprised if a big reason a lot of people play golf is because its consumer nature keeps out the riff raff.
