FO told me some music trivia awhile ago. The Eagles got their start as a back-up band for Linda Ronstadt.
My brother had a recorder for some grade school thing, and he also started to play the saxophone for band. He told me that where their range overlaps, they have the same fingering. |

As for the saxophone / recorder thing, you might think, "Well, of course. The resonant frequencies of a vibrating column of air will have the same
physics regardless of what instrument exploits that physics."

It's possible that the best-selling album of all time in America is The Eagle's Greatest Hits, Volume 1. That was also the first album ever to be
certified platnium. I don't know if anyone knows why it has such a position. Their third greatest hits collection has every song from the first one.

"Red Hill Mining Town" from U2's The Joshua Tree was supposed to have been released as a single, but the reason it wasn't is because Bono had
difficulty performing it live (the notes were too high) and felt he'd be expected to perform it live if it was released. (I'd often wondered why I
never heard it on the radio because I think it's one of the best songs on JT.)

Holy shit! Crawl pointed out to me that Paul Williams was the voice of the Penguin on the Batman animated series. I'm listening to one of his CDs at work
and I can totally recognize the voice now. Weird!

Brian May of Queen built his own guitar, the Red Special, with his father, when he was around (it took about 2 years to finish) 18. It was made, in part, from
the wood of an old fireplace. He continued to play this guitar as his favorite throughout his career.
He was in a PhD program in astronomy but dropped out to pursue his rock career. He recently finished his PhD this year. |

I learned something new tonight. I knew that people called him "Louie Armstrong" but I thought that was a nickname for "Louis Armstrong".
FO told me it was pronounced "Louie" (even with the "normal" spelling). Wikipedia confirms it;
they even have a citation following his first name. It's apparently because that's the French pronunciation of Louis, which is common in New Orleans.
