Random fact: I gave a physics talk yesterday and worked an XKCD into one of my slides (I was a little apprehensive about it, since it said
"Bullshit" on, but then I thought, "Eh." I've seen other physics talks where someone says "bullshit" anyway) (It was the one
on the Drake Equation)

I quoted this (and read it aloud; the XKCD I just left up on the slide for those who would read it themselves): What Schrödinger writes about the visualizability of his theory 'is probably not quite right,' in other words it's crap. --Heisenberg |

Going back to Seinfeld:
George asks to borrow ketchup from the next table and is turned down by a surly couple. When they finally give him the ketchup bottle, he slaps the bottom and nothing comes out! Where do they think these things up? Talk about reinventing the sitcom! If you analyzed that, the first thing you should realize is that that would never happen to Jerry or Kramer. It's character based humor because it would only be funny if it happened to George. So, why is it funny? Elaine might have a problem if there's no toilet paper. Kramer, if the milk he drinks is bad and throws it up. But the thing about George is, all these minor little problems happen to him. And you know they happen to him because he responds to life's smallest indignities with complete apoplexy. And even that wouldn't be funny by itself. It's funny because you can see that in other people. And sometimes, myself. Someone is posting with centered text on a discussion forum?! Why would you do that!? We're living in a society!! So, it gets you to laugh at human nature, which is pretty good. Another thing about Seinfeld is how intricate the plots are (somehow, the same theme will often occur in multiple storylines to different people) -- and how often it uses "analogies". Something I never noticed before is how much continuity there is. There was a small bit in season 2 about how Kramer wanted to open a place where people could make their own pizzas. Then, in season 6, it happened. You normally wouldn't catch something like that, being so far apart. And then they made that into an analogy for abortion:

At least it's not Shadow of the Colossus, but this line is still
fucked up
Out of the 64 tracks, I like 63 of them - "Tyrano Castle" is a little too annoying for me. Disc 3 is by far the best despite the "bad song", maybe the best disc ever of any type of music. |

I don't really think that's that fucked up. At least Chrono Trigger has one of the best game soundtracks ever.

Yeah, but:
Disc 3 is... maybe the best disc ever of any type of music. is still a bit of a stretch, but I do agree with Shiek it's still more reasonable that RevoIver Ocelot's claim way back when. ![]() It's time for revenge... |

Yeah, I read that. Bear in mind the original purpose of this thread was to highlight lines that were actually illogical, not just opinions that were a little
bit of a stretch. Saying almost any CD is the best ever is inevitably gonna be a stretch because there are hundreds of years of music in existence and
competition is incredibly high.
I can at least buy that Chrono Trigger would be someone's favorite music, even among all music ever, even if that person listened to a lot of music, and that such a person might think that Chrono Trigger has something more than just personal appeal, something to recommend it to other people. And like I said, Chrono Trigger is at least arguably the best videogame music. For someone of a particular generation and mindset, videogame music might be the best music, hence CT's status follows by syllogism. It's like Rolling Stone calling Sgt. Pepper the best album ever. But where's Beethoven's 9th???? Or where was Segovia on their list of best guitarists??? Obviously, they're approaching things from a pop (and babyboomer) mindset. For Shadow of the Colossus, I listened to some songs from it and immediately forgot them after they were done playing. It's not even good music. |

Going forward, I promise never again to use the "like a video game" phrase as a negative comment. From now on, it's strictly: "The movie seems like a 1990s-style video game brought to life on a big screen." There's no mistaking what that is intended to mean. |

Aw, Berardinelli, I expected better
With an expert at the controls, it's possible for a viewer to sit back on the couch and actually be entertained by what transpires on screen. Herein lies an inherent mistrust of the game of a video game. Why is it always the storyline that's praiseworthy and always the interaction that's an "orgy of repetitive motion"? It's a common line with both the mainstream gamers with the realism and convoluted stories of MGS4 and the "alternative" crowd that pisses their pants over the heartbreaking art-breaking Shadow of the Colossus. Whatever the target of praise, gamers cling to "un-gamey" elements like character development and environment as their criteria, and never meaningfully discuss gamey elements such as level design or challenge. |

The best part of gamers clinging to things like character development and environments is they cling to shitty ones like MGS using screens upon screens upon screens of text to explain how much somebody likes popsicles, or SotC's Bloom County. ![]() It's time for revenge... |

On the new Banjo Kazooie having unreadable text on standard definition TV's.
"I'm sorry that we weren't able to address this issue as nothing would please us more than turning all your complaints into gleeful responses, but it's simply something that's too expensive in terms of time, resources and money to alter.Yeah, we don't have time and money to waste on nonsense like making our game playable. The response by the guy on this site was even worse: Sorry SDTV owners you are SOL. Not too sound like an elitist jerk, but I agree with Rare here, the game was designed to played on a High Definition Television. Why should they apologize for that? This is the HD generation and I don't want whiny SD owners hindering game development. When PC games are released with higher specs then you have, do you complain about to message boards, or do you realize that maybe its time for a new computer? Well maybe it is time for you to start saving for a new TV, because HD makes a difference and from where I stand it's better. Don't go backwards, and if you are still using a SDTV, then don't buy games designed for HDTV's. |

Why can't HD games have large text, anyway? But then again, it seems the goal of graphics today is to cause as many headaches as possible, which I guess
tiny text aims for.

Loyalty to any one sports team is pretty hard to justify. Because the players Isn't that kind of like being a fan of a long running game series? Banjo Kazooie is about 10 years old now. How many people that worked for the first one do you think even worked on the new one? When you get down to it, being a fan of a game series is just being a fan of the concept of corporate mascots and trademarks. |
