Yesterday, Smoosh and I went to look at an apartment. The one they showed us was just perfect - It was the perfect size, it was in great shape, and it even had a small balcony. It was reasonably priced, and the only problem was that they carpet was kind of messed up, but they said they'd refurbish it. We were told that we needed either checks or money orders to pay the application fees, so we went to get money orders at the post office, then went back to the apartments to fill out the application...
The problem is that when we got there, we were told that the apartment that we were shown was already taken, and we'd actually be getting a different one. I insisted on seeing this apartment before we did anything else. This one was in TERRIBLE shape! It had a huge hole in the ceiling just outside the apartment door. The bathroom wall had a huge hole in it (the tiles were falling off), and other parts of the walls were damaged, too. There was no dishwasher in this apartment, and no oven, either! There wasn't even a balcony (although I could live without that), and the rug was in even worse shape. They promised they'd have it fixed up by the time we moved in, but I so angry at this "Bait&Switch", and the fact that we went and got money orders, that there was no WAY I was going to take that offer!!
We're going to look at another one on Tuesday, but if we don't find something within the next week, I may have to move back to New Jersey...Everything we've looked at so far has been either too expensive, or too dumpy...=(
