At the mall today, I saw a t-shirt of an NES controller and text that read something like, "Respect Your Roots!" It seemed kinda cool; I might get it.
I also so that the Alien Quadrology is coming soon on DVD. It's kind of a bummer that I'd have to buy Alien3... but guess what? The version of Aliens is the original Theatrical Release! Personally, I like that version more than the Special Edition. I don't really care to learn that Hick's first name is Duane (or Dwayne? Damn, even the special edition doesn't give me the info I need!). And the part where Newt's parents finds the aliens had foreshadowing and characterization that seemed artless to me. I was glad it was cut. Since Aliens is a long movie anyway, I liked the somewhat tighter pacing of the theatrical release.
The strange thing is that the other 3 movies are supposed to be 2003 editions. Okay, I know Alien was rereleased this year (not anywhere near where I could see it). But what about the others? And does anyone know what was changed in Alien? I really don't want to see the "crab walk" in that movie (why does every movie with cut scenes have one be a crab walk scene?). Or everyone turning into an egg. That stuff belonged on the cutting room floor, imo. Most movies are better the way they originally were. Maybe the only exception that needed a director's cut was Bladerunner.
