I think it's funny how Lucas thinks this movie will do worse than any other Star Wars films, yet fans seemed really stoked about this one.
Lucas seems to have lost touch with his fanbase. He doesn't seem to realize people would rather have a serious drama than a two hour toy commercial. |

Quote: Well, from what I understand, he is rightfully worried (to some extent) that this one won't get as large of a family audience as the other prequels because of its more mature content. Because this one isn't nearly as family-friendly as the first two, he is worried that it won't draw as many children. From IMDB: Quote: -'Tamer

I guess I disagree with a few things in that Retrocrush article regarding the origial trilogy. For one thing, I don't agree that Star Wars (the original movie) had a "bad script" and the only reason people forgave it was because it was new. I actually think that of all the Star Wars movies, that one works best as a stand-alone story.
Also, I've heard people try to defend Episode 1: The Phantom Menace by saying that the only reason people don't like it is because it isn't anything new. Honestly, I can't see how that could've EVER been considered a good story. How do you make an epic plot out of a trade embargo? One of the highlights of that film is the pod race scene, and the chariot race in Ben Hur totally blows it away. One thing I really enjoyed about watching the old Star Trek movies is that there aren't any CGI people or creatures. When you see things like Klingons, Borgs, Vulcans and other aliens, they're real people, so they seem like something that could actually exist, as opposed to having a lightbulb go off in my head that says, "Oops! CGI!" (The only thing I can think of that CGI could've possibly improved in the Star Trek movies was the "God" in ST5, as I thought the way it looked was ridiculously cheesy.)

Retrocrush does make a few good points. I've read the comic version of Episode III and I did find it odd how the Jedi Council assigns Anakin to spy on Palpatine, even though they are suspicious of their relationship.

The biggest scam ever pulled in front of anyones face ever - isn't it obvious why the fanbase of the original films will have been too old and seeing thru it all anyway by the time the first three episodes got a release.
Watch a whole bunch of lemmings step from 2005 back to 1977 to experience the whole thing in surround-o-time. Only things I care for out of that whole mess still are the toy robots and ships - Power Droid for example, how cool is that. Ah, the days when one side of the movie theatre was for smokers........s'all gone now. Kaput. No more. Ceased to be.....etc. |

James Berardinelli's review of Revenge of the Sith is up.
He gave it 3 1/2 stars. But bear in mind that that's the same score he gave all the prequel movies. (Also, he gave Return of the Jedi 3 stars. Personally, I think RotJ is way better than Phantom Menance or Attack of the Clones.) "Any life when viewed from the inside is simply a series of defeats." -Orwell |

I think that Return of the Jedi is way better than Return of the King, yet most people (that aren't from this board, anyway) seem to disagree.

Quote: I made the statement a while back that I thought Clones might be better than RotJ, because the latter was so much weaker than the rest of the Original Trilogy. I'm not sure if I'd really stand by that statement anymore, but there are a lot of things about RotJ that annoy me. The Ewoks, for example, I find more irritating than anything found in the prequels, including Jar Jar. And they get a whole lot of screen time. The early parts with Jabba are very mixed. Some aspects I like, but it goes on for quite some time. But when the movie is good, it's REALLY good, such as the scenes with Luke, Vader, and the Emperor together. As far as Return of the King, and the LOTR movies in general. When I watch them, I find them so impressive, and I feel like they should be some of my all time favorite movies. But they just aren't. When I first saw RotJ, I was about 5 or 6, and it was years (like a decade and a half) before I heard any hint that it was considered the black sheep of the original trilogy, and that a lot of people were annoyed by the ewoks in particular.

Like CloudBond said, RotJ has some great scenes, particularly action scenes.
The X-Wings, A-Wings, B-Wings, Millenium Falcon battle vs. the Death Star, Tie Fighters, and Star Destroyers is far and away the biggest and most comprehensive starfighter scene in any Star Wars film. Yes, I think it's even better than the last scene in ANH. The prequels have had jack squat concerning starfighter battles. The N-1s in TPM are okay, but not enough. Yeah, I'm a big starfighter nut. So sue me. |

I agree that the space battle at the end of RotJ is the best one in the series. And it has Admiral Ackbar.
Admiral Ackbar > everything in Return of the King and the Star Wars prequels combined. |
