 Vinny is a stupid starling. Mini is a hummingbird, although her beak isn't really long and thin enough, but it looked better the way I have it.   Mini makes funny facial expressions.

That looks similar to the island of Eden in Kartia. Eden also had chains coming out of it like that. But it was a whole lot bigger and longer.
Oh, man, I have a picture of Christopher Pigeon (the character that somehow eventually morphed into Christopher Paladin) that looks very similar to this. I'll have to scan it but I don't think I'll have time tonight...
