This is one I don't really get:

Nora the Cat Plays Piano

Okay, it's a cute video of a cat doing something cute, but it turned into this huge sensation. It was mentioned on Conan O'Brien (and they did a joke based on it) and it has over 4 million views. Someone even emailed it to me at work.

The thing is, in my truly honest opinion, I don't think there's anything special about it. It mostly just paws the same key over and over again. It then switches to another key and paws it over and over again, and it does this several times and it actually becomes rather tedious for me to watch it do that same thing for almost 3 minutes.

I think the talking cats video is much funnier and more amazing and entertaining.

...which relates to the title of the other thread, "Youtube ... overrated?"

That might seem like a stupid title, since by now just about every internet user probably uses Youtube.

But what do I use it for?

I'd guess 95+ % of the videos I watch were made professionally. A good number of the remainder may be amature, but still incorporate copyrighted material (such as some of the videos Hobbes posted).

Youtube was *supposed* to be about amature videos (made by "you") like that cat-playing-the-piano, but, with rare exceptions, I'm not terribly interested in stuff like that.

I saw some videos like that on YouTube when I was looking up the crash tests for the Chevy Malibu. Although they're very amusing, the thing I hate about them is that whenever the driver is a woman (or suspected of being a woman) the people in the comments go on and on and on about how the video is absolute proof that all women drive like that.
