I think that this won't be a popular game, but a certain set of people are going to really enjoy it. It's called Etrian Odyssey for DS. The dungeons are in first person and the bottom screen is used for making your own maps

The carography is definitely the main hook of the game, as users actually traverse through dangerous dungeons and actually map out their adventure using drawing tools for the walls and rooms, as well as dragging and dropping various icons (stairway up, down, event, puzzle, boss monster, item) onto the tiled bottom screen to make the most accurate and user-friendly map possible. Many of the intro missions actually center entirely around the cartography aspect of the game, as AI characters will highlight a region on your blank map and require you to trail-blaze into unknown areas, charting your progress step-for-step. It's in all ways odd, but surprisingly entertaining.

Since the game has an extremely mature and tactical feel, there's no hand-holding, and there are no limits to your strategy. From the very beginning of the game you'll be thrown into the town of Etria and given a brief overview. The Rhada, govenors of Etria, issue a proclamation throughout the continent that any "able-bodied adventurer" was invited to investigate the forest and explore the Yggdrasil Labyrinth.

The game is very difficult, as there's no saving outside of the town, and one bad step could mean an incredibly tough battle that wipes out multiple comrades in one flush. Should you die, your experience and any items will be lost, but map data is saved.
"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it.
Nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done."
