I had a dream the other day about a young teenager who was playing hooky from school, and woke at about 11 am to discover that squeezed onto the street in front of his house was an amusement part that went in both directions as far as the eye could see. I guess there was also some business about how it was there because of an evil supernatural clown, and the park was like a modern version of Pleasure Island from Pinocchio.

The odd thing about the dream, though, was that I kept thinking to myself during it, This would make a good story. When you wake up, try writing it into a story.

Once I woke up, I thought that pretty much sucked for a story. On the other hand, the visuals in my dream (of rollercoasters squeezed in the width dimension to fit into a street while still long in the length direction) were sort of interesting.

I had a dream about a week ago about going to Disney World with my father and sister. We went on a log ride (vaguely similar to a water ride at Cedar Point). Since I had been there before (in real life, sort of, though it was nothing at all like in the dream), I warned them that you had to sit perpendicular to the axis of the log. They didn't listen, and when the ride started, the log toppled out.

I suppose the dream itself is of no significance, but this was the second amusement part related dream I've had in about a month. The most interesting thing about the park was the way it looked (which I can't really convey through text, but it looked sort of like a palace).



When I think back, I sometimes can't be sure if I had recurring dreams on some issues, or if I just had one long dream that seemed like several. I had something like this regarding bridges, in particular bridges that were out. One dream involved what was a big draw bridge in real life, but in the dream people had to swim across the river at that location.

In other dreams, someone was driving over water on a bridge that eventually had some impossible features -- inclines greater than 80 degrees, a width barely enough to hold a car (or even just two narrow stripes, one for each column of wheels), a section that actually dips under water.

Even though FO's playing it, I had a dream about Harvest Moon last night. I don't remember many details, though. I'm trying to remember if FO was also in it.

I had a pretty weird dream last night.

You know how supposedly if you dip a person's hand into water while they're sleeping you can make them pee? The dream wasn't about that, but it's the closest thing I can think of.

Some people were sleeping at a house. They had two life meters, one that was made of little dots of red blood, and I guess actually was supposed to represent some blood level in their body. The other was blue, and was maybe supposed to represent mental or emotional levels.

Anyway, the idea was that if you did some thing, you could get a person's body to respond in a strange but predictable way. I think the way it worked was that if you woke a person up, or surprised them, while their blood meter was at a certain level they'd be paralyzed.

So, some people were doing that to sleeping people so they could kill them.

I think at one point in the dream I was paralyzed in this manner so I'd know what it felt like (I also knew what the people were doing, so I knew what was coming; the point was to show that a person has no control over it). However, what happened afterwards wasn't detailed. Most of the dream was in third person and I (the dream me) wasn't in it, I (the real me) was just a disembodied omniscent observer of the events.

I think when I was younger, my dreams were more normal... Meaning, I was actually in my dreams, and I might have thought there was some reality to what was going on. If I was having a nightmare, I might really be scared.

The difference between real life, though, was that my dreams were what I called "videogame dreams", meaning that I actually saw myself (my dream avatar) as though from a third person perspective. (This was before first person shooters; I suppose first person RPGs existed, though I hadn't played any yet) I think I would have called a dream where what I saw was through my (dream character's) eyes a "camera dream", but I don't know for a fact if I ever had one.

Now, most of my dreams are just weird images, I'm frequently not in them as a character (or if I am, I don't really know it), and I'm so detached from the events I never even think about the dreams being real. Even dreams that could almost be considered nightmares seem more like they're presented as entertainment (like a horror movie) than something that would truly frighten me.


The only recent dreams I can think of where I felt personally involved in what was happening are those stupid nightmares where it's the day of the final exam and I never went to class all semester. Sometimes those dreams are so real that even when I wake up a little I'm still in a state where the dream seems real. I had a nightmare not too long ago (maybe within a year) where the class I missed was a history class, and even when I woke up I thought, "Oh, shit! I don't know any of the history I'm supposed to!" I was awake for several minutes before I convinced myself I just had a dream, considering that my days of taking history classes are over. Oddly, the time inconsistency (that my dream was near the time of the exam, in the afternoon, while when I wake up it's morning) didn't clue me into it being a dream; I think it just confused me more.

Then I had another nightmare even more recently where the subject matter was something I could still be taking, but I woke up briefly in the middle of the night, went back to sleep, and in my next dream thought, "I just had a dream that I wasn't ready for this exam, but now I'm really fucked because it's really exam day now!" (It might not have been an exam, it might have been a paper I needed to write, but same difference) I think in my first nightmare, I woke up at 1 PM (in the dream), which was way too late to do anything. In the second nightmare, I woke up at 10 AM, which was still too late, but it was like the dream tried to do something to get me prepared earlier.

I also have had dreams where the missed class was religion (I too went to a Catholic highschool).

Sometimes those dreams have a highlight of the beginning of the semester. I start out getting my schedule of classes. I have something like 5, which I have trouble keeping track of. I go to class on the first day, but then somehow forget to go for the rest of the semester. (I must have these dreams because my subconscious must think that'd be a mistake I'm likely to make). Then at some point I'll think, "Wait a minute. Aren't I taking 5 courses, not 4? I must have forgotten to go to one!"

A religion exam without preparation wouldn't be too big a deal, I'd think, so the nightmare is more about not having done the assignments all semester.

One explanation I could have for having dreams like this is that I've been in school so long that all the different semesters are running together, so I (or my subconscious) can't keep track anymore of when I took or was supposed to take what. The only problem with this is that I'm not taking many classes any more, and that I don't recall having dreams like this in highschool (I might be wrong, though). About highschool, maybe, but I didn't actually have them until college, maybe not even until graduate school.
