Damn, there's a bit of snow on the ground this morning.

FO said, "There's not just snow on the ground. It's snowing."
And as I learned on the drive to work this morning, it's not just snowing, it's snowing hard. "Of the three ways in which men think that they acquire a knowledge of things--authority, reasoning, and experience--only the last is effective and able to bring peace to the intellect." -Roger Bacon |

I haven't been around as much because I'm on a 10-day work week right now.
I also recently had something happen that had me really down in the dumps and more than a little bit anxious. It made me think about this topic and I was curious if I'd have trouble sleeping. Nope, out like a light. |

It must just be an individual thing (and I've already known myself to be pensive).
I am curious, now, on whether any statistical data (which is more common?) or other information on this exists. Like, I just said I was pensive, but even though it intuitively seems like that would correlate, does it really? Maybe sleeping and waking "personalities" are distinct.

When I was very young I used to think too much to sleep. I wouldn't even get a full night's sleep, because I'd wake up sometime in the middle of
the night and start thinking. Now it's the opposite; I'm always out like a light.
It either snowed lightly or sleeted very lightly today. |

Fuck this weather!!
It seemed nice when I woke up this morning, and I put some of the furniture and Crawl's bike outside on the patio so I could run the roomba. Then I noticed it got windy and I looked outside and it's snowing again!! Thankfully, the roomba had run out of power so it was done anyway, but I had to pull everything back in so it wouldn't get too wet. I wanted to go to the bank and make one last visit to the cat shelter on my last day off from work, but I decided against it because it was just too damn cold outside! I absolutely HATE how it doesn't get warm until May around here. I also heard an animal crying outside, and I think it was a bird (though I couldn't identify its call), but I thought it could possibly have been a cat, too. Of course, once I'm outside it stops crying and I don't know what direction it had been coming from. (If it was a cat, and I managed to catch it, it's going straight to the shelter. There's no way they're going to tell me they don't have any cages available when I've been there almost every day the past few weeks and have seen the rows of empty cages with my own eyes.) |

Yesterday we had warm weather (60's or so) with thunderstorms, and today it's been in the 40's, chilly with the wind.

Argh! It's so cold I had to run the space heater this morning. At least Hermes helped keep me warm at night.

We saw a performance of MacBeth tonight.
I always think it's funny how in Shakespeare's plays, characters boldly commit murder and then always have remorse. |

The other day, FO asked me what it was we saw that had a guy spill salt and then hurriedly throw it over his shoulder. It was MacBeth. I guess it was
something that she could have confused that with a TV show or movie.

My PC made a really weird noise this morning, sounded like the fan was going crazy or something. It went back to normal after a few seconds. I restarted for
unrelated reasons and when booting up, it had a message like: ALERT- Prior Fan Failure. Continue? Y/N
It seems okay at the moment... |

what else? starhub... according to their website, they're not hiring. singtel... oh ok. they have vacancies. most of them i don't qualify for. no biggy. all right.. found one i qualify for, but sounds too much like my previous office job and would probably pay me less money 'cause they only asking for 'o'-levels. and oh hey, and the same kinda retail job i get mocked at for taking them up! seriously doubt they pay any better than any retail job (around a 1000 per month, at best). well crap, why not? i couldn't even get a starbucks or carrefour job. they don't even send nice rejection letters like the MOE. na, wait. starbucks told me they suddenly don't need people as soon as whatsherface saw my face. well, that's at least some kinda notification. very belated PS: starhub did eventually call me, but the girl at the other end of the line got really bitchy at me, when i asked her why they fined people who quit the job , and how many people have quit or threatened to complain to the Ministry Of Manpower since they posted that ad. i quickly made an excuse and hung up , to avoid any screaming. guess that's why i see mostly filipinos at their service counter. desperados. well, not that much different from me. except, i don't take $3K threats very well. |

I'm really annoyed with the way a lot of the employers around here make you fill out a neverending questionnaire when you apply online. I'm talking
about stupid retail jobs at places like K-Mart and Costco. Pilot had a bunch of open positions posted lately, but they wanted both my Social Security # and my
Driver's License #. It's like, how clueless are you people?

I remember at CVS I would see the applications come in "not hireable" because they failed those things. Some because they couldn't speak English,
others because they would just put in any answer at all without reading the question. Not defending the test itself, but do take it seriously, or it could cost
you a job.
They might need your social and DL for a background check. |

It's just odd to me that places that seem to hire high school kids off the street require them. They might need your social and DL for a background check. Well, yeah, that's what they say. But in this age of identity theft, no one should ever ask you for that information over the internet. Many job listing websites say right in their "How to protect yourself" sections not to give out your Soc or Driver's License # on the internet. And employers really shouldn't ask it of you on a job application. If you get an interview and they're seriously considering hiring you, then that's when they should ask for it. |

That makes sense, I didn't read carefully and I didn't realize they were asking for that info online.
I have been asked for it offline in an application, but not all the time. |

Here's an
example of this.
This is the first time I've seen a form that asks you to confirm your Soc #. Cute. This is supposed to be an application for a job at Sears. If that's so, why am I redirected to a website whose URL does not have "sears" somewhere in it? I think this is a scam, but I've seen legitimate ones ask for the Soc #, too. But because these scams exist, no one should ask for it online. |

Here's another way you can tell this is a scam.
Now, what are the chances of two competing companies placing extraordinarily similar help wanted ads at the same time? |

Man. Terrible, terrible insomnia.
I think part of the problem is that I'm thinking too much about work. But part of it is my fault. I took a nap earlier, so I can't sleep now. What happened was that I was lying on the sofa, and Pepper came up and cuddled with me. She put her back right against my side and even pushed in. She seemed like she was in a very loving mood. I wanted to enjoy the moment, so I didn't get up, but that meant I inevitably eventually fell asleep. |
