I cleared that highway level I was talking about earlier, and it was even more tedious than I remembered. You don't constantly stop to fight off a swarm of clones, you're being dogged by them throughout the whole damn level. Well, I savestated at the beginning of the fight with M. Bison, because like fuck I was replaying that level if he beat me. And he actually did get me the first time, because I was taken off guard by his second form.
By the way, his similarity to M. Bison has got to be intentional, because he also has an attack where he stretches his arm, Dhalsim style.
After that was a completely uninspired shooter segment. I slogged through that snoozer, I'm currently at some defense core boss.
I love that you have so much health that dodging has only been vaguely necessary against a few bosses, and most of the time it's only for being Captain Fancypants.
I wonder if the reason people gush over Seven Force so much is because it's the only inspired boss. Aside from a couple of humans, everything else is either a boxy robot, or spherical robot.
Everything Gunstar Heroes does, Contra: Hard Corps does better. Much better. I even think I like the soundtrack better, which is saying something because I don't actually care for Hard Corps's soundtrack, but at least it's effective in context - Gunstar Heroes' soundtrack is just noise. But either the whackjobs trying to prove how much better the Genesis is than the SNES got their asses kicked by Hard Corps, or they don't want to say "You don't see games like Contra: Hard Corps on the SNES" because the SNES did have a game like Contra: Hard Corps.
