I don't mind the "one-liner" jokes, but they do seem out-of-place in an essay-format review. In sectioned-format reviews, they can be used to introduce sections. I remember playing ActRaiser a long time ago, but I can recall very little about it, so I didn't understand the "jokes". (And I don't read 8-bit Theatre, or any other on-line comic.)

One memory I do have of that game is that I noticed that by positioning the Angel (or cursor?) over a Monster Lair, it would tell you how many monsters were in that lair. So, I wondered if that meant it was actually possible to empty the monster lairs before the people sealed them. So I sat there shooting each enemy that appeared, and sure enough, eventually they stopped coming! (Yes, I can be such an idiot, sometimes.)
