It's funny, but even though I finished Shadowgate 64 in about a day, it's not even really the easiness of it that bothers me. It's that it's so dull and boring, and the game gives you hardly anything interesting to look at or do. If you're a person who likes the original Shadowgate, then one thing you probably like about it was the sense of wonder it gave you: all those bizarre rooms with weird creatures and strange obstacles to overcome, and those goofy little riddles that made you think. As far as other 3D games with a style similar to Shadowgate 64...say what you want about Shadow Man, Aidyn Chronicles, and Omikron, but those games had some really, really interesting and bizarre environments to look at and explore. Shadowgate 64 doesn't have anything that blew my mind in the way those games did. About the most interesting visual I can think of was one room in the castle that had a galaxy painted on the ceiling, but the rest of the game consists of normal-looking rooms, most of which are filled with beds or tables, and at least 50% of the objects you can pick up in the game have no use. Even King's Field, which looked rather dull for the most part, had that neat virtual reality maze for the final area. I can simulate most of Shadowgate 64 just by walking around my office and picking things up.

Also, the entire plot centers around a "chosen one" cliche, only to end in such a way that whether or not your character really was the chosen one makes no difference.
