For games that have multiple difficulty levels, like fighting games and shooters, then multiple endings per level are okay.

But for RPGs, straightforward action games, and adventure games, I prefer one ending. What is wrong with having one ending? If viewing the ending is meaningless, then the problem is with the game. Would having more endings make Record of Lodoss War a better game? Just having one good ending wouldn't have improved the game play, but it may have made it feel less pointless. Does a game like Crystalis or Final Fantasy 4 or 6 need to have a gazillion different endings? I really think having multiple endings in a game is overrated. Just tell a damn story and end it.
