"Don't forget, there's still the whole "my son died playing Everquest for 72 hours straight" stuff."

I wonder how many times that's happened in Korea.

So what are we more paranoid about- the fact that the industry is going to crash or the fact that it's highly unprobable for a new game to come out? I think that economic competetion these days is a let down for the arts. A lot of people here, such as Crawl, keep comparing the VG industry with hollywood's film industry because they seem to have many things in common, and by that they have a similar problem: it's getting ugly and fast...

"It might not be true that good, creative ideas for games aren't out there anymore. It's that when games cost multiple millions of dollars to develop, as now, game companies won't be as willing to risk money on the creative ideas."

Either that or they're too preoccupied about their jobs and money to even think creatively. There definiely have been some creative games, but they are becoming more rare, no? Who's going to risk putting up a wild crazy addictive game at the likely expense of their job, and even worse, the expense of other peoples' jobs? And since nintendo is no longer controlling the universe, it's no longer easy to do what you want with the game industry, I can't quite disagree with that. Now today's industry is something like this: whoever can appeal to a person's most barbaric senses and get them to impulsively buy their game wins.

And I don't even care about the Oscars anymore.
