I tend to think of babies in movies as more of a "prop" than a character. What if Vigo had needed something else to be revived, such as a rare gem, magic potion, ancient incantation, etc.? Basically, any number of scenarios could've been used, and it would've been the same thing. But they used a baby to have an excuse to bring Dana back into the picture. It was the same thing with Three Men and a Baby...The baby isn't a character, it's just a prop that provides all the comedy. But for some reason, I didn't think that movie was very funny...
