Pokemon just seemed like a lot of level-building to me. Maybe I wasn't playing it right, though...I dunno...=/

I think it is very easy to end up exaggerating when it comes to opinions on RPGs. For a long time, I used to think Earthbound was really difficult because of the troubles I had getting through some areas, but in reality, it's no more difficult than the average RPG. I think RPGs can have that sort of effect on you because you get so used to always making some kind of progress as you play, so that when you do hit a snag, the inability to make further progress at that point seems like frustrating difficulty, even if the situation is resolved quicker than, say, a tough action boss battle.
